As you closed the front door behind you, you sighed. The wetness of the sudden monsoon still hadn't left your clothes entirely, leaving you with an uneasy sensation of moist fabric clinging onto your skin.
You took off you jacket and shoes and went for the kitchen to fetch a glass of water.
Your mother hit you unprepared.
"So? How was it??"
"How was what?"
She rolled her eyes. "Your DATE!"
You went red. "I told you it was not a date! Just a casual meet-up. Nothing more."
"Call it whatever you want. When I was your age, we called it a date", she said and grinned.
"I guess." You shrugged and got yourself a glass of water. You sipped on it hesitantly from time to time, watching your mother closely.
"How was your day, mum?"
"Oh, it was okay. Nothing much happened-"
She was interrupted by Mia running into the room.
"YOU'RE BACK! LOOK, (Y/N), MY ARM!!", the tiny person shouted.
You looked at the arm she held up. It was wrapped in a colourful cast.
"Uh, mum, didn't you say-"
"Yes, I shortly forgot about that. Mia fell today and broke her arm, so I had to take her to the hospital, funny story", your mother said, scratching her head. "Mia acts so natural about it, it made me forget."
Meanwhile, Mia was jumping up and down excitedly. "Look! There are kitties on it! And puppies too! And flowers!"
You smiled and stroked her head. "It's the prettiest cast I have ever seen. Wanna tell me about what happened?"
She nodded intensely. "I got a new puzzle after going to the hospital. Can we do that together too?"

The two of you sat down to do a puzzle. Mia was getting very focused really fast, which made it a little hard to question her about the incident.
"So, Mia, what happened today? How did you break your arm?"
"Uhm, oh, yeah. So I was running around during outside-time in kindergarten. We played hide and seek and I wanted to get a good spot real quick. And then I tripped over something large and fell down onto my arm."
"Aw, bummer. Well sometimes things like these just happen-"
"There was that boy again."
"Huh?"
"The one that had been there before, and said mean things about you. He stood right there beside the fence. I couldn't see very well because I started crying and my arm hurt so bad."
"It's okay, it's okay", you said, now worried. "Can you tell me anything else you remember?"
"He ran when he saw the teachers coming, I think. When they brought me away, I heard them talk about something that isn't usually there or so. I didn't get it."
You furrowed your brows. Your gut feeling told you that there was something terribly off about the situation. What had Jakob been doing there? Could he possibly have something to do with it?
Even though the thought wouldn't let you go, you decided to let go of it for now and continue doing the puzzle with your little sister. When Mia was starting to get tired, you helped bring her to bed and then disappeared in your room.
