Chp. 2
Our eyes locked together and my face felt hot. I was worried he would notice me blush and glanced away quickly.
"Uhhh, who's that," Jack looked like he just woke up.
He was slouching on the wall with his fur frizzled, it looked like his fur was following a million directions. He was blinking a bit and it was now obvious that he woke up to his father's call. It was now apparent that the man in front of me was the boy's father and my stomach churned with nervousness.
"Well, that's you're new," Jack's father paused.
"Roommate," Jack's father turned his head.
"Well please make yourself at home. Also, what's your name?" Jack's father said while stepping inside and taking his shoes off.
The entrance of his home was dark in tone, the door was a beautiful light gray that contrasted with the dark stone walls. Nearby there were dark green plants with all different types of leaves that matched the house well.
"Its, Ethan," I said while looking at the stone ground outside the front door.
"And, the last name?" Jack's father said as he turned around.
I kept silent and looked into his eyes.
Jack's father started to walk inside and signaled to me to follow. I kept walking and speedily took off my shoes. He kept walking forward and took a right down the hallway intersection.
"Jack, make sure our guest is comfortable," Jack's father kept walking.
"Yes father," Jack said.
I stood there next to Jack and the air was thick. I looked away but could see out of the corner of my eye that he was trying to start a conversation. Now, that I had a moment to realize that the world I was in was very different from my own, I started to cry. I breathed heavily and tears just started to flow.
I felt a warm touch on my left shoulder. I looked up and saw that Jack's eyes were right on me and looked at me with sympathy. I wish I could talk to him but I think he wouldn't believe a word I said.
"Are you ok? I'll go get you a tissue," he got up and ran, in a second he was back.
He handed me the tissue and I blew my nose.
"Thanks, this thing. This world is different," I said trying not to sound too crazy.
"Let's talk about it, that always helps me!" Jack smiled at me and I smiled back.
He got up and led me to what seemed to be the living room. There was a grey couch and a few armchairs. There were many small details in this room and everything seemed so modern. We sat down in the armchairs across from each other.
"Well, I'm Jack, although you probably know that from my father saying my name so much!" Jack chuckled.
When Jack talked it was like a thousand pounds were lifted from my shoulders, I could finally breathe.
"And, I'm Ethan," I put on a fake smile.
"Well, where are you from?" Jack asked me.
Unlike his father, Jack was more approachable and I feel like I could talk to him, I wanted to talk to him.
"I'm not sure you would believe me," I crossed my legs and put my elbow on the arm of the chair so I could rest my hand against my head.
"I won't pry, but I'm here just so you know," Jack said.
"Ok, but can I ask you something?" I said with a tone of desperation in my voice.
"Of course, ask me anything," Jack said as he leaned back against the couch letting go of his right-up posture.
"Your dad said you were animals, in my world animals are on all fours and are rarely on two legs and also rarely have the ability to communicate. So, what do you think of me?" I didn't know what he would say.
I took a deep breath and looked at Jack's face with a stern look, apparently a little to Stearn, hehe.
Jack burst into laughter, "I'm sorry, you should see your face," he said while trying not to laugh.
"Was it really that bad?" I giggled.
"Yeah! Now on to more serious subjects. I don't think you're that different. I mean there are plenty of bald cats. However, you're definitely the first bald monkey I've seen," Jack said to me with a grin.
My smile turned fake and slowly started to lack. Bald? Monkey? I guess I would need to get used to these names. It sucked but bullying doesn't just go away because you're in another world.
"But I don't think it matters. You might get some weird looks though," Jack looked outside, it looked like we were in the afternoon.
I sighed and gazed at him with a pleased look. I got up and walked to his left side, closer to the window and looked out.
"So, I have two more questions for now," I said as I turned around.
"What is your definition of bald? I mean I have hair on my head, it can be styled at whatever. And a monkey? Haven't you ever heard of a human? I am a future relative of monkeys, my brain is much more advanced," I spoke with a slight annoyance.
Jack looked at me and waved his hands back and forth, "I didn't mean to be offensive! But that makes sense, I've never heard or seen a human before. Your hair is fine, but are you sure you humans don't have hair covering your entire body," he pointed at my legs.
I looked down at my legs, I was wearing shorts at the time. Then it hit me, I DIDN'T SHAVE! I crouched into a ball and looked up at Jack.
"Ok, final question do you have a shaver?"
"Ya, I'll go grab a new one for you. The bathroom is over there," Jack pointed to a door farther down the right side of the hallway.
I headed over there and waited outside, I didn't want to accidentally interrupt Jack's father. He scared me a bit. I took a deep breath and the thought of my family came into my mind. My kind mom, my hardworking father, my sister, and all of the other family. I shook my head, I couldn't think of my family right now.
"Here it is," Jack walked over to me with a razor in his hand.
"Thank you very much," I took the razor from his hand, as I took it I felt his soft fluffy fur and it made me want to hug him.
We stood there and looked at each other's eyes. He looked so friendly and I felt that odd feeling in my stomach again.
"Umm... I'm gonna go in," I smiled.
"Ok! I'll be in the living room if you need me," he started walking towards the living room.
I entered the bathroom and the walls were a light gray, the first part of the bathroom had sinks and a tub. There was another door towards the left and in the room was the toilet. I walked towards the sink and did what I needed to do. A little while later I was finished and I headed towards the living room.
I saw Jack in one of the armchairs reading a novel.
"Oh, you're out!" Jack closed his book and laid it on the small coffee table beside him.
"Yep," I said while sitting down on the couch area closest to him.
"My dad wanted to talk to you," he said.
My stomach suddenly started to churn, that man had bad vibes emanating from him.
"Oh, ok. To be honest, your dad kinda scares me a bit," I said with worry in my voice.
"My dad is nice once you get to know him. He just acts serious," he said with comfort, although I still had a bad feeling.
That's when we heard footsteps coming down the hall, I took a deep breath.
"Ethan, let's have chat," Jack's father said with a dim smile.
