Chp. 5
I can still recall my memories from the last few months, but I can't help feel like there is something missing. I know I can't remember anything from last week but I thought that was the only thing absent from my memory.
"Hey, I understand that everything that has happened to you can't be easy. But It will get better," Jack paused and looked down towards the soft carpet.
His face wasn't like what it was before, it seemed like he wasn't as one sided as I thought. Knowing that, I felt like he was much more trustworthy. I have a good feeling that he isn't the type of person that would betray someone.
"Trust me," he looked at me and tried to smile.
"Ok," I whispered quietly.
Jack started the game and the opening cutscene started to play. It looked interesting but I just kept thinking about Jack and what his story was. I think everyone has a story. Something to tell, even if small.
"I'm sure you'll like this. Although the combat is pretty hard, the story is definitely worth it.
The opening cutscene over, I tried out the controls. I guess our worlds were also different. Or maybe I've been in the dark about this system. Anyways, I didn't want to play this anymore. I had a new objective in my mind, to find out what my story is. This game, if it made those words almost come out of my mouth, it probably meant something. I chuckled, perhaps, I played a ton of video games and then eventually fell into a portal into one of them. Just the thought made me almost start laughing.
"What's so funny," Jack apparently noticed my almost apparent laughter.
"I was just thinking, this world. It's amazing, I bet many people would wish for an opportunity to start all over," I smiled while looking at the screen.
We kept playing, we were almost ready to challenge our first mini boss, when someone knocked on the door.
"Dinners ready!" Jack's dad was much more cheerful around Jack.
Jack paused the game and clicked the save button. He got up and offered his hand. I obliged and smiled as I got up. I felt much safer around Jack, perhaps, even more than I did around my sister who comforted me long ago.
We walked down the hallway, towards the kitchen. Mr. C was plating the food on some dark colored ceramic plates. Angle's hair spaghetti, a deep red sauce, and a pinch of herbs as garnish. I smiled, my grandfather used to make the best homemade spaghetti.
"This looks great, thank you!" I smiled and looked up to Jack's father.
"Your welcome," he said while merely glancing at me. I felt like a lab rat, nothing more than a specimen.
Jack's dad handed me and Jack a plate. We took them and sniffed the magical smell coming from the dish. It smelled great! You could detect the herbs, basil, parsley, and a mixture of other aromas. We sat down and Jack offered the seat next to his. His father sat at the opposite end of the table.
"Lets dig in!," It seemed whenever Jack's father spoke he only included emotion if Jack was included.
I couldn't tell if Jack's father was inconsiderate or he just didn't want to have anything to do with me. I didn't mind, it's not like his opinion mattered anyway. Nobodys does... Not any more. I started breathing heavily, things started to come back to me. Just like before.
"What's wrong? Is the smell good?" Jack was playing a big grin.
"No just reminds me of my grandpa's spaghetti. He used cinnamon in the sauce, it's better that it sounds," I said trying to distract myself.
I took a bite, it had layers of flavor. His sauce could have rivaled my family. We kept eating, there was almost no conversation. I wondered if they were always this distance or maybe it's because of me.
Soon we were finished and after we cleaned our dishes we went back to playing video games.
After a few hours....
"Knock, knock, knock," Jack's father was knocking on the door.
"It's time to sleep, Ethan can't get sick before I have time to examine him," I felt annoyed that I was being bossed by Mr. C of all people.
Jack turned off the system and put the controllers away and walked towards his bed.
"You first," Jack said and singlad to his bed.
I blushed again, I forgot I was going to sleep next to him. Trying to break the awkward atmosphere I walked and got in the bed. Jack turned off the lamp lighting the room and rested alongside me.
"Well, welcome to my planet. Goodnight, Ethan," Jack turned to his side and started to rest.
What an eventful twenty four hours I thought to myself. Memories, memories, memories, piece by piece, piece by piece. One day, I'll discover the truth...
