Standing in the train station, Naoko kept her feet sturdy and her shoulders held back, ignoring the pain that took over her body ever since she had left the UA campus.

The train ride home was quiet and calm due to her being able to find a seat rather than have to stand. Her headphones were in her ears, and her jacket wrapped tight around her shoulders.

No music was playing, but Naoko moved her head softly to an imaginary beat. She felt that if she entered the house distracted by music, anybody that might be home wouldn't bother her.

When the train stopped and Naoko exited to make her way home, her mind was telling her that she shouldn't get her hopes up.

Walking through the front door of her large house, her ears were met with blurred silence. The earbuds were still snug, but they hid nothing as there was nothing to hide. She sighed in relief, switching her shoes for slippers and quietly making her way to her bedroom.

As she passed the door to the kitchen, her thoughts of not getting her hopes up resurfaced, almost mockingly.

"Where have you been?" boomed out a masculine voice. Naoko debated answering or pretending to not hear, but figured that punishment wasn't worth it. So with that, she tugged at the cord dangling over her torso, letting the earbuds pop out of her ears and fall quickly with a bounce off of her legs, and turned to her father who sat at the dining table, a few papers scattered in front of him.

"I went for a run," she answered, ready to turn back away.

"For five hours?"

"I stopped at a park to train," she lied, lifting her small duffle bag as some type of proof. The man let out an angry sigh.

"There's no point in you training, Naoko. You're not becoming a hero," Endeavor's voice seemed to leave him as a growl as he crossed his arms over his chest, "Now do something useful and start lunch, would you?"

"Wh-" Naoko hesitated, her father's eyes burning through her at the smallest of noises she made. She breathed in deeply, gathering the courage to defy him just this once, "Why... Why can't I be a hero?"

Endeavor sighed from his seat at the dining table, "You're weak, and you'll never surpass All Might without a dual quirk, so there's no point—you know that. I halted your training because you turned out to be another failed creation—"

"I never stopped," She cut him off. She looked away from her father, fearing his reaction, "I never stopped training."

Naoko could imagine the nasty glare that likely found its place on his expression, but refused to so much as glance at him.
