×Naruto's P.O.V.×

I gently set her head down on the wooden bridge. Sakura had run over by the time my hand had left the back of Baby's red hair. She pulled me away forcefully. "Be careful Naruto! She's dangerous!" Sakura said worriedly. Her words upset me. "She is not! She's still the same girl!" I yelled back. "She stabbed someone!" The pinkette argued back. "So has every other ninja ever!" With that, I stalked back over to Baby's passed out form, and crouched down next to her.

Her red curls laid out like a scarlet halo around her face. With her eyes closed, I couldn't see the emerald green but the calm over her facial expression was worth seeing. What people say about others looking younger when they slept was true. Baby looked pure, innocent, and adorable. I trailed my fingers through her hair and looked around.

Haku had fallen along with Baby and Zabuza was crouched slightly pressing his hand against his stomach. Kakashi was standing guard next to Zabuza for if he made a move and Sakura had returned to ensure Tazuna was unharmed. Sasuke was still...dead. The sudden remembrance of Sasuke brought my mood down. I already lost one teammate... I can't lose another...

"Some killer you are? Lost to a little brat," an arrogant male voice sounded out from the beginning of the bridge. My cerulean eyes flashed to a large group of men, led by a significantly smaller man. His face was ugly and wrinkled, small circular glasses sitting atop his crooked nose, and his hair was spiked up and grey with a receding hairline. A cast and bandages were surrounding the man's small, pudgy arm. It was Gato.

I growled lowly in disgust and anger at the small man. His eyes trailed to me and then my red-haired girlfriend. I tightened my grip on Baby. "I could make better use of the small girl than I ever could off you Zabuza Momochi. As a matter of fact, I came here for a very similar reason. I paid you to kill the bridge builder, but you failed. I don't pay failures. I kill them."

Gato stalked forward, seething as much intimidation as he could which his small stature, but stopped in his tracks when his foot hit something and almost made him stumble. Haku's body was lying peacefully at Gato's feet. Gato's mouth scrunched up in a sneer. "I never did like this brat," The man used his foot and kicked Haku's limp body a few feet towards us, disrespectfully.

The nerve of him! I angrily thought standing up to attack the vile man. Before I could advance, I was stopped by the mercenary ninja. I looked at him, flabbergasted. Haku was his teammate and he wasn't doing anything about Gato's blatant disrespect. "How can you let him do that? Haku was your teammate!" I yelled angrily at the tall man. Teammates were precious and deserve justice.

"Haku wasn't my teammate. He was just a tool for my use. His goal was to fight and die for me, and he did that." Zabuza's words were cold and distant. He was lying to himself. "No!" I began to argue back, but Kakashi-sensei told me to leave it alone. I persisted. "Haku died for you! Do you hear me?! He died because he desired to protect you more than his desire to live," my words made Zabuza flinch. "He was your friend. Friends should be treasured and are precious. Haku stayed beside you because he cared for you!"

Zabuza stilled completely. With his words stuck in his throat, Zabuza's coal eyes were glued to Haku's still figure. The small boy, as naive as he sounded, was right. Haku had stood by the mercenary since he took him in. Despite everything, the boy cared for him and was the only family he had left. So, yes, Zabuza agreed. How dare that oversized pig touches him!

Zabuza, with damaged arms and stomach, clenched the small yet deadly weapon in his teeth. The nerves in the bones rattled but that did not unclench the large man's jaw. The scene commenced with revenge, bloodshed, and tearful goodbyes. Haku wasn't the only one to lose their life during this misleading mission. Zabuza, Gato, and the mafia leader's thugs also perished in the last bloody battle. Unfortunately, Baby never got to apologize to the good men she harmed and that haunted her for years to come.

Despite the lingering guilt, Zabuza held no hard feelings for the strange girl he had battled and lost against. He actually admired her for the groundbreaking strength she demonstrated. No one had bested the lifelong mercenary as well as she. And he would remember that far into the afterlife. In one of his final words to the inspiring blonde young man, Zabuza not only thanked Naruto for the long-needed reality shake but also demand that the young Uzumaki promise to inform the young girl of his forgiveness. Of course, Naruto accepted and he never breaks a promise as trust is more important than anything to the young blonde.

However, Naruto was unable to fulfill Zabuza's dying wish until three days later. Although the others were unaware, the long rest was a result of a complete shutdown. All of Baby's mechanical workings were put under such extreme strain that they took days to restart. In the spiritual mind of Baby, she was recovering from the mental exhaustion it took to overthrow her and take back control. Baby also dreaded waking up and facing the reality of what she did. Baby didn't know that all was forgiven and feared being seen as a monster by those closest to her. Despite this, Baby awoke days later regardless.

Naruto had been the one to carry the robotic girl back to the wrecked home of Tazuna and his family. Due to their thanks, the small family had allowed the shinobi to stay those three days to recover from injuries as well as the burial of Zabuza and Haku. Despite his teammates repeatedly telling him to rest, Naruto never left Baby's side. He waited until he could see her beauty once more and tell her how the fight had ended. As the days passed, his worry increased.

On the third day, Baby awoke in the very early hours of the morning. The night sky still shone with the moon's glow and the nocturnal animals had yet to return for their sleep. After gaining her senses, Baby noticed her blonde lover sleeping next to her. His brows were furrowed and a frown had been implanted on his lips. It looked wrong and unnatural. With a gentle shake, Baby pulled Naruto out of his drowsy state and convinced the half-asleep boy to lay in bed with her. Both fell asleep again, holding each other close. All worries were being forgotten or ignored until they would wake again.

The next morning, Sakura was told to fetch Naruto for breakfast only to find her two teammates cuddling tenderly. She left them to their peace. Hours into the early afternoon, Baby awoke to Naruto's arms holding them chest to chest and Naruto's face buried into the crook of her neck. The constant light noise of outside, whether animals or people, had fallen in deaf ears as each lay undisturbed. Baby's pale hand gently met with Naruto's shoulder and tenderly woke the young boy up.

Naruto was overwhelmed by joy when he met the emerald green eyes he became obsessed with. His lips curled into his normal blinding smile before he met Baby's cold lips. They both continued to relish in the aura of each other and did not want to face the harsh reality. Quickly these two young teens had become the escape from the horrid life that forced them to grow up too fast. Pulling away slowly, they stared into each other's eyes and braced for a much-needed conversation.
