title: corrupted shadows
any descriptions of your work? yeeesh so I feel like I should point out that my stupid butt left this till the v e r y last minute so I was a smidge panicked when I made this,, this piece is centred around the girl in the wedding dress, someone good who was twisted, betrayed and changed by the people around her. a piece about corruption of the soul, the darkening of innocence. instead of having a plot I decided to focus on themes and symbolism in this piece! I'd recommend looking at the little things: her antlers, the bloodstains, her transparent ghostly nature, the blackening of her dress and lips etc. set in a forest like place with the stuff on the floor I have the feeling she's about to do something very wrong and stupid but she's too far gone to care or worry given the cold calmness of her. regardless, good luck to my evil antler princess<3
how did you come up with this idea? this piece is centered around the theme of corruption and change. I've seen a lot of corruption going around (perks of living where I live) and I wanted to focus on the deterioration of innocence. I wanted to capture a snapshot of the journey of transformation between a pure white happy bride and a darkened monster, the change from white, clean human happiness morphing into something wrong and different. the antlers on the girls head are a reference to the show 'hannibal' where the character Will goes from unstable but well meaning to very, very bad very, very quickly.
the stag antlers are a representative of this change. I purposefully chose a brides dress and wedding flowers as symbolic of happy occasions, and I wanted her to look ghostly maybe even fadingly ethereal. the bloodstains on her body signify a struggle of an altercation of sorts, after all they're around her face, neck and abdomen so you can decide what happened there. the shadows behind her are a direct link to the title. I like the idea of her being corrupted by others, namely the people around her! the people Who should've had her back, the ones who'd followed her throughout her life: namely her shadows. we are all influenced by are demons and our angels and the shadows are a representative of her ghosts, people who didn't help her when they should've. just this idea of seeing someone slowly crumble, fall and break and simply watching them doing it the whole way, like some kind of corrupted shadow.
I think whilst doing this I wanted to try something different and fun because with my short experience time in graphics along with a time limit I figured I'd just have fun making something that was heavy on my own symbolism (I'm a sucker like that) and this is actually surprisingly bright,, I tried to adherenwith the genres but I think this wouldn't classify as a conventional horror cover :0 (I had my phone light super low whilst doing this so i accident it made it bright, although that was my intention since I wanted to do something more clean and clear to the eye.hints on how you did this cover/graphics? i used a lot of pngs, blending tones, smudging, drawing tools and all that! Also my first time rasterising a text layer so that was pretty snazzy. I used around 20 layers so,, that happened :P I'm a sucker for drawing things myself so brush tools are my babies. I spent more than a few hours just messing around with this hehe because I wanted to try doing things I'd never done before~
rate your own work from 1-10: *sighs* I'd like to not judge my work by the standards of others but seeing (and drooling over) the other entries I think I'm probably one of the weakest? however I'm going to be kind to myself since I put my all into this and I tried my best which is what counts when you're not cut throat going for a win! I'll give myself a 6 which may be kinda high but I wHAT to be positive since I did this a little sleep deprived and worried<3
goodluck, BOYSINGREEN !!!
