title: she's a fighter
any descriptions of your work? I made a character banner featuring Nami, a character from One Piece. It features 3 cards, with the middle holding the main info and the remaining two representatives of the titles Nami is known for. The final output gives off a retro vibe with the vibrant colors and background.
how did you come up with this idea? My Tumblr feed's aesthetic is more fandom-based so I feel like doing something for my own fandom, which is One Piece. It's still March, too. And I have yet to dedicate a National Women's Month entry. So here it goes :)
I generally have the idea of a grainy-retro vibe since that's what I'm leaning into nowadays. I also have the fonts I want in mind. And that I decided instead of manga cap or anime cap Nami, I'll cast a Swedish actress as Nami. (Yup Nami is Swedish). I initially planned some layout but scratched them off and just worked my way. I listed the things that will build up Nami's character:
The Log Pose (compass in the One Piece universe that reads electromagnetic waves from the islands) and Clima Tact, Nami's weapon where she uses weather science to manifest blows and attacks. (How cool is that) I also put her tattoo on the output, just above the logo for the contest. It symbolizes the slavery, her dark days and how the sun started to shine down on her after finally meeting people that would stood up to her. It shows so much about her character and how important she is as she is the first most-fleshed out character in the series.
Orange is Nami's character color and also represents Tangerines, the fruits her family grow in her hometown. 07 and 03 are very significant numbers. Since Nami translates to 7 and 3. It is her birthdate while she is also the 3rd member of the Strawhat Pirates.
hints on how you did this cover/graphics? I listed my ideas. I went on getting some resources such as photo of my Nami actress (Alicia Vikander) and some official art contributing to Nami's character (which I detailed above). I also went to Unsplash for my background (by Patrick Hendry). I worked on this in between work and community service. I went on for textures and basically blending options. A lot of blending options. I didn't get to find a render of Nami's new climatact so I decided to just draw it. (see the 3rd card, weather witch).
rate your own work from 1-10: I really liked how it came out! I'm so proud of it so I think I'm giving myself a 9! Idk how this translates/appeals to other people since I've seen more of the trendy stuff on other entries but I'm so happy and satisfied on how this went! typography, color scheme, theme & cleanliness 50% - (does the cover/graphic so clean? does it look so messy? does the typography and color scheme matches the cover/graphic theme and the way it was put in? does the strand matches your cover/graphic?)
