*****Dominique barged into the room, and straight to her bed, burying her face in the fabrics of her bed spread as she wept into it. Her roommates were shocked at her action, and they instantly left what they were initially doing, and encircled her.
"Dom?" Genesis called to her, but she only sobbed the more into the bed.
This got them even more concerned, and anyone could tell this just by looking at their expressions.
"Hey, Dominique, c'mon what happened?" Anastasia questioned.
Seeing there was no way she could escape without telling them the truth, she slowly rose her face from the bed, and was met with their intense gaze. Genesis went to her side, and threw her arm over her shoulder in a comforting way.
"What's wrong?"
Dominique sniffed back, as she looked into Genesis eyes that sparkled with concern, but still had a major glint of curiosity. She had no problem sharing her problems with them, but she just wasn't sure she could share anything about Alex to them. How was she going to explain herself? Is she going to tell them that she loved the man she left. Could she probably tell them that even after leaving him, her wild heart still carved for him, but she just couldn't ever go back?
Certainly, no one would understand her. Even she didn't understand her own self. She was so pathetically stupid.
"Please, tell us what's happened to you, Dom?" Genesis asked again.
Dominique sighed. "He's looking for me. He wants to see me."
She stared at the girls, and they all looked pretty confused, and she mentally slapped herself. How could they know what she was talking about?
"Er, Dominique, who are you talking about?" Anastasia asked.
She bit her lip, and shook her head, "No one."
Genesis face instantly turned into a frown, "Don't keep it to yourself, sis. Share it. Remember, a problem shared is a problem solved."
Dominique looked at her, and gathered all her words, "He's Alexander." She said, but the girls looked at her for deeper information, "He's my ex." As she said the last word, her throat went sour.
Did she just break herself from the relationship she had with him? Or, was it just right that she admitted that they were really done and over? Maybe this was just right. In fact, what was the need of trying to fight the inevitable? She just had to stop lying to herself, and asking questions that will never have answers, and probably stop holding back the pain.
And, so, she began narrating all to the girls, who all listened with all attention.
Anastasia moved to grip Dominique's arm lightly, and she looked up to meet her eyes which glistered with crystals of tears that hung around her while eyeballs. Her eyes were full of affection, but Dominique could not help but notice that deep pain in them.
"You've been through so much, Dominique," Ana sniffed.
Genesis also gave her shoulder a slight squeeze, "Ana's right. It takes a strong woman to go through all that, and not break off."
Dominique turned to Genesis, and equally saw that look in her eyes, but even as she wanted to believe that what they said was true, she just couldn't bring herself to thinking she was ever really the person they claimed she was. She wasn't strong, she was never a fighter, and she was only a lonely little girl carried along with the wind of circumstances, and pushed on by the rough hands of fate, and finally driven by her solemn dreams. How then can she be called strong when she was standing on a frail stand of her part in life?
"Thank you, girls," She managed a fake smile, "but, I was never strong, and I still am not." She added much to the girls' disappointment, as they both crashed their shoulders.
"You are right,"
Dominique could not believe whose voice she had just heard, and she had to blink twice to confirm she actually was awake, and not lost in some unnatural trance.
"You are absolutely right. No one's born strong, and we all are standing on our frail part of life," Sharon said again, and this confirmed that she had heard right.
Dominique turned away from the two girls, and let her eyes fall on the girl who sat crossed legged on the floor with her back resting on the iron legs of the bunk, but her face lowered and fixated on the ground before her.
"Why'd you say that, Sharon?" Anastasia asked, relieving Dominique from having to ask herself.
Several seconds went by with the silence in the room, and then, Sharon spoke up with her face still down, "I know how it feels, Dominique. I never thought that you were just like me."
Dominique's face rounded with shock, and surprise all at once, "What?" she muttered silently.
Sharon raised her head slowly, and met with Dominique's eyes, and her lips pulled out to a thin small smile, "I always had the feeling that I had met you before, but I wasn't sure. After all, you were only little, and now, you are completely different."
"What are you talking about?" Dominique questioned.
Sharon's shoulder fell, along with the heavy sigh that escaped from her lips, "I also served in Dinah's brothel."
Ana and Genesis gasped, while Dominique stared at her without blinking.
"What?"
Sharon tugged on her lower lip, as she closed her eyes, and nodded, asserting to Dominique that what she had said was the truth. Dominique felt her heart tighten at this, as she gasped.
"When? How?" This was what came from her lips.
Sharon looked around, and saw the other girls curious gazes on her, and she sighed deeply, "I belonged to Tabitha's clubhouse before I was transferred to Dinah's brothel. I was only fifteen," She explained as her eyes moved around until they fell back on Dominique, "and, you were only ten."
