For the next hour, the girls listened to Sharon’s story with adapt attention. For a lady who rarely speaks, she did have quite a lot to say. She narrated how she had lost her father to cancer and her mom to the storm of the life at age nine. She was taken by her uncle, and sold to the owner of the Tabitha Clubhouse when she was only ten years of age. She had to serve her boss, his clubhouse, and his particular desire of her skin. He however got bored of her, and upon meeting Dinah, he agreed to have her traded with another older girl from Dinah’s brothel.

She had come to the brothel full of a vision of a better life; she hated being at the Clubhouse, and she thought Dinah would be better, but she was wrong. Dinah was worse, and she even hated the brothel than she had hated the club. So, she did the most stupidest thing in order to get out. She chose to go to bed with a client unprotected. She didn’t even know his name, all she knew was that he wasn’t a regular face at the brothel, and he seemed to have been led there that day by his friends.

However, few weeks after this, she found that she was with child. Dinah found out, and instantly threw her out of the brothel after calling her a worthless moron. This was what she had wanted, and she walked away glad that she had managed to get free. Yet, she was once again proven to be wrong by the universe, as freedom wasn’t that easy. She was free from Dinah, but she had just walked into a world filled with many people like Dinah. Life had become worst, and she had felt as though she had walked from the pan to the fire.

She had to do all kind of odd jobs just to survive, even as she looked for a way to remove the bastard in her. It was only a few thousand of naira and she would have the godforsaken brat out of herself, this she had thought. But, as time went on, she actually bonded with the little creature in her womb, and came to love whatsoever was growing inside of her, despite not knowing whom the father was, and the stupid choice that led her on. She had suddenly found a reason to live, she was ready to go to any length for that little baby in her, and she had found her second chance at life.

Everything was perfcet, and going according to planned, all until that fateful day when once again her curse caught up with her. She was on her way from the company where she worked as a cleaner, when she was ambushed by two men, and gang raped. She had passed out and only awoke three days later in a hospital. She was found by some vigilante members, naked and open in the same alley where the incident had taken place, and they had rushed her there. She broke down when she was told that she had lost the baby, and also damaged her womb in the process.

She said at that time, she felt that everything was over for her. She wanted nothing more but to die. That baby was her life, and her hope, but it was all dashed into pieces. All her work was for that child. All she wanted was to be with that child. She wanted to make that child grow and have a good life. She wanted someone of her own; someone she could call her family. Even this little had been denied of her.

So, she let her legs led her, and she was soon standing on the rail that was over the Lagos’ ocean, with her mind blank and her eyes covered and blinded with tears. She was ready to end it all, and she was never going to walk away from this.

However, someone stopped her, and up to date, she always had that person reverenced as her heroine. Amelia had saved her that day; not only from throwing herself into the lagoon, but also from the death in her heart.

As she finished narrating, she looked at her roommates, and they were all speechless, and shocked. Dominique’s eyes were filled with tears, and she stood and walked to Sharon, and fell to her knees in front of her.

“I can’t believe you went through that all, and we have met before.” Dominique muttered.

Sharon reached for her hands, and squeezed them as she tried to blink back the waters that blocked her vision, “We aren’t so different, Dom. In fact, we are so similar.” She said, as she released Dom’s hands, and cupped her cheek in her palm.

Dominique stared in her eyes, as she felt the pain in Sharon’s words as they rolled out, “You ran away, I did that too. You did stupid things, made stupid choices, and they all came back to hurt you, just like I also did. You feel in love and found a reason to live again, so did I.”

Her hand trailed to Dom’s hair, and she tucked a strand of her hair behind her hair, as she smiled sadly, “However, you still remained strong. You never at once thought of giving up. This is the only difference between you and I, Dominique. You are a fighter, and you are a lover. You have the fire in you to become great, and make a difference, and this is so rare.”

Dominique tried to resist, but Sharon shook her head, “Let go of your past, Dominique. This is the only thing standing in-between you and your freedom.”

She took a deep breath, “I lost the one whom I loved, and I never got another chance to save my beloved,” She then looked into Dominique’s eyes, “Listen to your heart, Dom. Don’t lose him a second time. Don’t regret not listening to your heartbeat. If he really loves you, Dom. He’ll stop at nothing to find you, and you, if you truly love him, will let him back into your life.”

Dominique felt her heart drop at this, as she pressed her eyes together, and the tears rolled down her cheeks. She just looked at the lady advising her to give love another chance, despite losing hers.

She also cupped Sharon’s face in her palm, “Sharon, never say you weren’t brave. You were very strong, if not, you wouldn’t have survived it all, you wouldn’t be sharing this with us.” Sharon bit her lip as she let her own waterfalls out, but Dominique stopped them from rolling down her face, as she wiped them off with her hand. “Don’t you ever think you’re weak, cause Sharon, you are the strongest woman I have ever met and I know that no matter what, you will strive to become better.”

Sharon smiled amidst her tears, as she pulled Dominique to herself, and into a bear tight hug, “Thank you.”

Dominique also wrapped her arms around her, “I should thank you, Sharon.”

“Aww,” Gen gushed as she also came to join in the hug. Anastasia followed suit as they all held themselves tightly in the hug.

“We will never give up, will we?” Anastasia asked, and they all shook their head. Dominique smiled, and for the first time that day, her smile was really genuine. She felt light, and free, and she knew what exactly she must do. She now knew what she really needed.
