*****All through the program, Dominique found that her eyes was all over Amelia and Tatiana, and she understand why she had this desire to know more about them. Maybe, this was because she had actually listened to Genesis’ chattering and incessant gossip. It was defiant that her mind was only playing tricks and her whole body followed along just because she had butted into the story that doesn’t concern her.
However, she could not shake of the feeling of familiarity that drew her to Amelia, but she had to focus on the job at hand, and make Joe proud and happy. She could not afford to ruin such a big job for him, even if her head’s practically screaming that she should do some really crazy things.
The party was mostly boring to Dominique; the guests all moved along and chattered in small groups. Only a few actually came over to the stand for drinks, as majority got served on their seats like kings and queens. Well, that was the definition of the class of people at the party. One thing she figured out was that Amelia wasn’t a small time musician; she seemed to be the big thing.
As her eyes scanned the crowds, she could not help but feel her belly tighten at the people around her. They were all influential people who commanded power, and money was nothing but a base of their affiliations. There were several ladies whom may not be up to her age, or probably same age with her, and they looked like they were older than their ages with all their fanciful dressing, and their classed accents.
Sharon had told her that many of these girls where the daughters of the influential men and women of the society, but some were just escorts to the huge belled men and chiefs. However, she could tell that many of these girls were truly silver-spooned, and she could not help but envy them.
A young child whimpering caused her to snap out of her thoughts, as a woman and a little boy of about seven walked to the stand. Dominique pulled on her best smile as they approached her.
“Missy, do you have any punch?”
At first, Dominique zooned out, but soon she guessed that it must be some kind of juice or kiddie drink, and they had nothing on the table for people under aged. She shook her head, and the boy’s face fell disappointed, and his eyes suddenly watered up.
His mother noticed this and crouched to his side, and petted him, “Don’t cry my prince, Mom will get a better drink for you,” She cooed the little boy until he brightened up, and he smiled.
“Can I get ice-cream mommy?” He asked.
Luckily, Dominique knew of an ice-cream shop not too far from the hostel, and she decided to help the momma, and her son. “Ma’am, you can get it at the second shop on the street beside the hostel.”
The boy’s mother looked at her, and Dominique could see her eyes glister with appreciation, “Thank you, dear,” She said, and straightened up. She delved her hands into her handbag and brought out some notes and offered it to Dominique.
“Oh,” Dominique gasped on seeing the money, but the woman’s face was smiling and telling her to accept it.
Well, she was definitely not going to reject a simple offer of thanks, and so she accepted it with a broad grin, “Thanks, ma’am.”
The woman shook her head, “No. You’ve done me quite a favour, dear.” The woman said as she held her son’s hand and they walked away from the stand. Dominique’s eyes followed them until they disappeared into the crowds and she sighed.
How she had wished she had someone who would worry and care for her like that woman did for her son. That little boy probably would never appreciate his mother, but that was the sick truth about life. While she wished to have her parents, some out there wished their parents were dead.
