A flashing light, a vision. Lis saw her mother sitting on the floor because her baby was gone, she saw Karma tied up in his cell, and she saw the cold crawling up her legs and swallowing her. She opened her eyes and suddenly it was like she was in another room. Her and him complete alone. Not her father, neither the guy in the chain or the people in the cells, none, just her and him. A voice in her head. "Defend yourself!" It became louder and louder until she had the breakdown.
-
Slowly the light came back and she could hear her father yelling. "You're weak. Make yourself stand up! You disgrace the honor of your family!"
-
Lis could see the young man gritting his teeth and tightening his jaw. "Family ?! Huh? You call that a family?" he whispered.
He looked down at Lis sternly and you could see a spark of pity in his eyes.
-
You could hear his rough voice briefly. "Stand up!" he paused
"And fight as if you have to defend your life."
His cold voice made the blood freeze in her veins.
-
Lis got up and took the knife. With all the strength in her body, she tried to attack. But she was weak and it was too easy for him to knock her out with a little slap on the head. Everything went black and she fell back. 'Again? Is that my fate?'
-
Lis woke up in a cold corner in her cell. She got up slowly and grabbed her head. In front of her was a jug of water and a loaf of bread.
She hadn't ate for more than a whole day and her mouth was dry.
-
"Huh? I guess you got your ration earlier. We get bread and water every fourth day. We have to split that up. It isn't easy for the most of the people down here. Some of them already died after a night, I 'm surprised that you are still alive."
-
A shadow was standing in a corner in another cell. Lis tried to ignore his voice and existence. She wanted to go forward. She crawled toward the jug on all fours, but something stopped her. You could hear the sound of a metal chain. It had gotten tangled up and was too short.
Lis looked around in the dark. She saw the shackle on her leg.
Suddenly a piercing pain pierced her and she collapsed.
-
It was cold and rusty. She slowly ran her hand down her leg. She felt a warm, viscous liquid. It smelled of blood and she could feel the wound. Over Lis cheek rolled a few tears down, but what could she do?
-
She looked back at the bread that was rolled up in a cloth. She panicked trying to untangle the chain that she would get it a little longer.
She tried again to reach the Water and the Bread.
Lis tried hard. She crawled on the floor and stretched, while trying to suppress the pain in her leg.
// Just don't think about it! Just don't do it! //
It took all of her strength, even a scream sounded and shook the night and she finally reached it.
-
"It hurts, right? I can smell the blood, you should definitely do something with the wound."
Lis gritted her teeth as she tied the piece of cloth around her leg. She knew his voice, but it was different. The shadow came from his corner and the little light that shone through the crevice shone directly into his face.
