Misaki woke up to find Shin in the kitchen. The clocked showed a quarter past 4."Did you sleep well?" He asked, checking her temperature with his forehead. She hummed in response.
"You seem hotter than before. I bought some medicine. Make sure take it after you eat."
"Are they all downstairs?"
"Yup. Akari gave Aichi your worksheets. It's on the table."
Misaki thought about what Kai was doing. A small part of her wanted to see him, but she knows any interaction with him would cause her fever to spike. As if she could act natural with him in front of everyone.
Misaki sat at the dining table, and rested her head on her arms. She felt herself burning.
"What are you making?"
"Chicken soup."
"Ahh mom used to make that for me."
"I know. You say that everytime."
After Shin dumped all the vegetables into the pot, he prepared an ice pack and put it on her neck.
"It feels nice."
"Would you like someone to keep you company? Some of them asked if they could come up and see you." Shin asked, taking a seat in front of her.
"They're very noisy...... but Kai, Kai is ok." She said drowsily.
Shin's eyes snapped wide open. "Kai?!"
Misaki giggled. "As I thought I really like him."
Shin knew that Misaki tends to act like a truthful child when she got sick so he pushed her for more answers. "Since when did you like him?"
Misaki put the ice pack on the table and rested her cheek against it. "I don't know, but I was very nervous yesterday. I couldn't sleep nor calm down, so I passed out the floor. I'm sorry, Uncle." Her words slurred, and she said them really slowly and cutely, just like when she was a kid.
Shin stroked her head. "It's the first time you ever said that you liked someone. You don't have to be sorry."
"It's embarrassing," she moaned. "Don't tell anyone. Shhhhh."
Shin chuckled. "Alright I won't say anything." Misaki is going to flip when she remembers what she says when she gets better.
He stood up and pulled off his apron. "I'm going to go down now. Help yourself with the soup when it boils and take your medicine ok?"
Misaki gave another hum in response. She buried her head into the ice pack. The ice melted very quickly, she thought, but it had been some time, and she wanted to change the ice. She stood up and felt someone grab onto her arm. Her knees buckled in fear until she realised who it was.
"Are you ok?"
"You scared me," she breathed in deeply. "I thought I was going to die."
Kai noticed the difference of her attitude. Usually, she would've scolded him. He suddenly knows why Shin didn't let anyone come up to see her earlier. "I don't think you're ok. Sit down."
"But I want ice."
"I'll do it for you." Kai put down his bag and took the ice pack. He made his way to the fridge, giving himself permission.
Misaki sat down again, and rested her chin onto her palms of both hands. "Uwa, Toshiki Kai is in my kitchen. Hehe who would've thought." She giggled as she looked at Kai, thinking it must've been a dream.
Kai pushed the new ice pack onto her cheek until she held it herself and put the back of his hand onto her forehead. She could easily pass 38 degrees.
Misaki held his hand, keeping it on her forehead. "Your hands feel nice." She then showed him a defenceless, hazy smile, which made Kai's ears red. "Thank you very much."
Kai pinched her cheek and covered his eyes with his other hand after he sat down in front of her. "You're really broken, aren't you?"
"No, I am just updating to that I can be immune to the Kai fever." She stuck out her tongue at him.
Seeing a sick and playful Misaki was very bad for Kai's heart, if he looked at her directly he would explode. "You're going to give me a fever."
"You deserve it!" She pouted.
Kai removed his hands from his face. "I guess I really do, huh. I'm sorry."
Misaki avoided his gaze and continued sulking.
"I'm really very sorry. I'll take responsibility and take care of you ok."
"Hmph."
They sat in silence until the soup started boiling.
"It smells nice," Kai commented. "Do you want me to get it for you?"
Misaki nodded and buried her head in hed arms. "Thank you."
Kai searched the kitchen for a bowl and a spoon. Considering how busy Shin and Misaki are, everything in their house is arranged nicely. It took him a while to find what he needed. When he opened the lid of the pot, Misaki spoke up.
"Don't give me onions please."
"Why not?" He asked.
"I don't like them." Misaki scrunched her face in disgust.
"But onions are tasty." He felt a bit offended, as he actually loved eating onions. "They're good for your health."
"No, they're weird and mushy when you put them in soup." She groaned. "Shin always makes me eat them."
"Then you have to eat them. It'll be a waste if you don't." He said, already scooping whatever Shin put into the soup.
"You're my boyfriend, you're supposed to be on my side!" She whined.
Her words 'boyfriend' made Kai's heart stop a beat. It sounded like she didn't really hate him. He smiled as he covered the lid and looked at her.
"No, I'm siding with onions. They're my favourite vegetable." He set the bowl in front of her. "Eat."
"Then you eat it!"
"It's your soup. You have to finish it because you're sick. I'll eat your onions next time."
Misaki's eyes light up. "Really? You'll eat my onions next time?"
"Only if you finish all of them in the bowl."
Misaki pouted and scooped up the onions in her soup. "You're unfair." She blew on her soup before drinking it, then making a face and stuck out her tongue. "Hot."
"Be careful." Kai said, pushing her hair to the back of her ear.
