Of sandwich and anniversary

Well, that dinner could have been better. I cannot believe Mama would do something like that. I specifically told her na magdagdag man lang ng pagkain na hindi allergic si Aly. Pero masaya naman ako that Lolo accepted her. Si Papa naman, ganun naman lagi, wala masyado reaction. No violent reaction is better na rin.

Tapos sumulpot pa itong si LA. What if si Mama rin nagpapunta sa kanya sa dinner? And ngayon, I don't know what to say to Aly tungkol sa sinabi ni Mama. Honestly, hindi naman totally mali yung sinabi ni Mama. Yes, there were times na magkasama kami ni LA sa room but never in the same bed. LA and I grew up together, we are practically siblings. Mama just made it sound na may nangyari sa amin ni LA. And I cannot blame Aly for thinking that. Si Mama kasi e.

Tahimik lang kami ni Aly sa kotse. When we reached the condo, hindi pa rin siya umimik. Dumiretso siya sa kusina at binuksan ang ref. Baka gutom pa, after all, wala rin siya masyado kinain. She took the ham, cheese, and bread. She fixed herself a sandwich. Then cut it in half, diagonally. Kinuha niya ang kalahati habang iniabot sa akin ang natitirang kalahati. I smiled. Kahit may hindi pagkakaunawaan, she still takes care of me.

As I took the piece of the sandwich, nagpasalamat ako. "Love, about dun sa sinabi ni Mama sa amin ni LA," I said. Aly looked at me intently.

"Alam mo naman na LA and I are like siblings. And yes, there were a few times na magkasama kami pero madalas dahil lang ung sa unfortunate circumstances. But please know na never kami nagsama sa isang kama. And usually isang gabi lang kasi we would get separate rooms na once may available," I further explained.

After some more clarifications, Aly finally smiled. She eventually accepted my apology. I also made sure na this coming Singapore trip, hindi kami magkasama ni LA sa room.

"Pero sa Tuesday na ba talaga ang flight mo?" Aly asked. "Yeah, may urgent rin kasing kailangan asikasuhin," I replied. "But how long will you be there?" patuloy na tanong ni Aly. "At least 2 weeks siguro. Depende pa kung maayos namin yung sa business," I answered. She paused for a moment. "Paano yung anniversary natin?" she asked quietly.

Shit, I honestly forgot na anniversary na pala namin next week. Nawala sa isip ko kasi ang busy na talaga sa work. "I'll make it up to you, okay? After this Singapore trip I promise wala munang business trip. Ikaw ang priority ko," I assured her.

"Promise yan ha? Sige, let's just move our anniversary. Pwede naman yun," Aly said, while laughing. God, what have I done to deserve this person? Sobrang understanding and kind.

"Since we will be moving our anniversary, baka pwede na natin simulan ngayon?" Aly asked. "Anong sisimulan?" I asked innocently. "Uhm baka pwede na natin simulan natin sa ganito..." she slowly said and started kissing me. I finally understood what she meant and continued it in the bedroom.

I have 7am class kapag Monday. But again, I overslept. I woke up in the arms of Den. I smiled and kissed her until she wakes up. "Good morning," Den said. "Best anniversary gift," she continued. I kissed her again. "Part 1 pa lang yan," sabi ko naman, and kissed her again. We were cuddling and basking in each other's presence when her phone rang. "Wag mo na muna sagutin. Time ko pa with you," I protested. She reached her phone. Her expression changed when she saw who was calling. It was her father. Hesitantly, she answered the phone. They talked briefly but I sensed the urgency. After talking, Den heaved a deep sigh. I had a bad feeling about it.

Den leaned over and kissed me. "Aly, I'm sorry but I have to go to the office. May emergency daw kasi," Den explained. "Im so sorry. Tuloy natin ito mamaya, I promise," she continued. Wala na rin naman akong nagawa. I just nodded. With that, she stood and headed to the bathroom to prepare. After she took a bath, agad naman siya nagbihis. "Aren't you going to class? Ihahatid na kita sa campus," she said. "Hindi na ako aabot sa first class ko. Mauna ka na lang. 1pm pa naman ung susunod kong class. I'll just stay here for a while," I explained. Den kissed me for one last time before she headed out.

Knowing that Den would leave for Singapore tomorrow, I fixed my things dahil i'll go back to my dorm. I decided to bring my things na rin para malabhan na sa dorm. I prepared to go to class. Mabilis na dumaan ang maghapon. I was waiting for Den's message para sabay na kami pumunta sa condo. Wala pa rin kasi akong susi, after all. I went to my dorm and did the laundry habang naghihintay. I checked my phone and it is already 7pm. Nagugutom na rin ako kasi hindi pa ako nagdinner.

I decided to call Den. After a few rings, she eventually answered. "Hi Love, what time will you be home?" I asked. Medyo maingay ang paligid. Parang maraming tao, may mahinang background music. I can also hear some clicking of utensils. "Hello? Hello?" Den said. Hindi agad kami magkarinigan. I guess she moved to a quieter placed kasi nagrinigan na kami, finally.

Aly: Hi, where are you?

Den: Uhm, nasa Makati.

Aly: Anong oras ka makakauwi? Nasa dorm lang ako.

Den: Im sorry, I don't know. I'm having dinner with business partners.

Aly: Nagdidinner ka na pala.

Den: Kumain ka na ba?

Aly: Hindi pa, I thought we'll have dinner together. For anniversary part 2?

Den: Im really sorry. We are just about to start eating. This might take a while.

Aly: I'll wait.

Den: Uhm Papa's waiving at me, I have to go back na. I love you.

Then she ended the call.

Guess it's pancit canton dinner for me while I wait for her message. I guess I have dozed off. When I check my phone, it's already 11:30pm. I checked if there was any missed call or messages from Den, pero wala. I texted her again, asking what is the plan. After a few minutes saka lang siya nagreply. "Aly, i'm sorry. Nagkayayaan pa uminom. Hindi naman ako makatanggi. Baka magalit si Papa if I leave." "Please, dont get drunk," iyon na lang ang ni-reply ko.

She did not reply to that. I texted her again, "What time is your flight tomorrow?" "Nakauwi ka na?" "Paano ka uuwi?" "Dont drive kung nakainom ka please" Sunud-sunod ako nagmessage. Pero hindi siya sumasagot.

Past 3am when I finally received a message from Den. "Home. No worf. Be." Ano to? Hindi ko naintindihan. Malamang nga ay lasing na siya. Home? Baka naka uwi na siya sa condo niya, sana nga. I tried calling her but she is not picking up anymore. Umasa na lang ako na ligtas siya at nakatulog na rin ako ng kalaunan.
