Chapter 15

“I still don’t think this is a good idea Aaron” I said nervously as we walked into the London Colney. “Don’t worry. I talked to the boss and he told me it was okay as long as you didn’t interfere with the training. And you wouldn’t do that, would you?” he asked looking at me.
“Trust me. I’ll keep my distance. I don’t want to get into something with Wenger.”

We met Jack in the hall. He seemed happier than usual like something had happened. “Shouldn’t you be at the hospital?” he asked. “Any time now, I’m two days over my due day and tired of being pregnant.” Jack laughed and walked into the locker room. “So I’ll just sit on those benches right there?” I asked Aaron pointing out of the window at a bench across the field. “Yes, I hope that’s okay with you. I just don’t want anything to happen and then I can’t be there to help you. You understand me?”
“I understand you, have a great day at work” I chuckled. I turned around to go out but he grabbed my arm, turned me around and kissed me. His hand went up my neck and into my hair. I was stunned by how passionate the kiss was that I didn’t know what to do. We broke off when Kieran cleared his throat. I felt my cheeks flush and mumbled a low sorry before Aaron kissed me once more. They headed into the locker room and I went outside.

Thank god the weather was nice. It was late August and it was a surprise it wasn’t raining. I heard the snap of a camera and turned against the sound. It was a blonde girl, or woman maybe? She was standing a couple meters away from me taking photos of the players. She faced me and came over. She sat down on the bench beside me reaching her hand out. “Hi. I’m Victoria.”
“Hi, I’m Adrianna” I said.
“You’re Ramsey’s girlfriend right?”
“Yes, how did you know?”
“I’ve remember seeing you and him together in a paper a while back.”
“Oh” I muttered remembering the time I was drugged and Aaron took me to the hospital.
“Not that it’s bad though. You’re very pretty.”
“Thank you” I felt my cheeks blush. I’ve never been good with compliments.
“How far a long are you?” she asked.
“Two days over the due date now.”
“So it’s anytime now?”
“Yes, anytime” I said feeling a little bit scared because I didn’t feel prepared enough. The bag was packed and was already in the back of Aaron’s car. Aaron’s parents were ready to come down straight away and the same with Julie. Victoria was a nice girl and we talked for most of the training.

The boys were walking back into the Colney to get to the changing rooms. I walked casually a few meters behind them. Victoria caught up with me and started to show some pictures she took of the players. They were really good actually. It was just me and her standing outside when I felt something wet down my leg. “I think I just peed myself” I said and Victoria’s eyes got big. “Your water just broke! The baby is coming.” To have known each other for two hour Victoria seemed very overexcited and happy about the baby. “I got to go” I said turning on my heel walking into the house. People that worked there looked weird at me as I rushed past them. I opened the door to the locker room to be met by half naked footballers. My cheeks blushed and I looked down.

I looked up again, determined to not be embarrassed of seeing half naked men. This was an emergency. “I need to talk to Aaron” I asked the boys not seeing Aaron anywhere.
“He’s not here” Jack replied me.
“Where is he then?” and as I said that Aaron whispered “hey you” in my ear. I jumped and turned around to face him. “What is it?” he asked after the boyish grin he had on his face was gone.
“Either I have just peed myself or the baby is coming.”
“Really?”
“I’m not joking when I say stuff like this” I said and Aaron rushed into the locker room. He threw some clothes in a bag and grabbed my hand as we walked out. He went from funny Aaron to focused Aaron in a couple of minutes.  “Good luck mate” and “it’s going to be great” the lads shouted after us.

We got to the hospital and were placed in a simple hospital room. The walls were a mix between blue and purple and it didn’t feel comfortable at all. “What are you thinking about?” Aaron asked me.
“Just about what colour I would paint this room if it was up to me.”
“That’s what you’re thinking about right now?” he chuckled and as he asked me another contraction was coming. “Not right now.” The hour went by. I had gotten one of those horrible hospitals gowns and another room. The doctor smiled polite as she entered the room. She wasn’t my doctor.
“Dr. King couldn’t be here so I’m stepping in for her. I’m Dr. Amanda Scott” she said and reached her hand out to me. “Just get this baby out of me, would you?” I said and ignored her hand. “Okay then, let’s check on you ” she said and reached down under the hospital gown.

I reached for Aaron’s hand for no reason. Feeling him there helped me so much. “Looks like your baby is coming now” she said and pulled away. Now it was Aaron squeezing my hand. “Already? I thought this would take hours?” I asked.
“Sometimes the baby can’t wait to get out” she smiled and left the room. She came back under a minute later with three other nurses behind her. How many people did they need to get one baby out? In a couple of minutes they had gotten everything ready. “Okay. Push everything you can on three.” Two of the nurses pushed my legs up, beside the nurse with the black hair and crooked smile stood Aaron smiling. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it as I pushed. “I’m never getting pregnant again.” “I hope you’re changing your mind about that” Aaron said with a low voice. What was that supposed to mean? He couldn’t say things like that when I was pushing what felt like a watermelon out.

“Ready to push again?” the doctor asked. “Can I get some painkillers or something?” “It’s too late for that I’m sorry. Two more pushes and your baby is out.” I felt another contraction and pushed like I had nothing to lose. The doctor looked at the big clock on the wall. “It’s now 16.20, your baby will be out in ten minutes.” Ten more minutes with pain, yes I could do that I told myself. I pushed with all my strength for ten minutes but eventually I was out of energy and I just wanted to lie down and fall asleep. “The head is almost out, this is the last push. I promise” she said. I was sure that I crushed Aaron’s hand on the last push but it was worth it. The pressure eased off and I saw the doctor holding a baby between my legs but she wasn’t crying. “Why isn’t she crying? I asked but no one answered. The nurses brought the baby over to the washtub. I was panicking and all different thoughts ran through my head. Aaron had gotten his hands around me and kissed my temple. “It’s going to be alright” he whispered into my ear. The tears fell but stopped when I heard the sound of a baby crying filling the room.

“Ready to meet your daughter?” the doctor asked like nothing special had happened before she gave me a little baby girl rolled up in a blanket onto my chest. She had brown eyes like Aaron and the dark brown hair from me. “She has your nose” Aaron said.
“No she has not my nose” I laughed. I looked at Aaron and I had never seen him smile like that before. All the pain that I had been through was gone. “Do you have a name for her?” the doctor asked. Aaron and I had been talking about names for her but never decided on the two we had left. “Olivia. Olivia Ramsey.” The doctor smiled. “Well congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey. There will be another doctor here to check up on you soon” she said before leaving the room. I was too tired to correct her and Aaron was so busy looking at his daughter to notice what the doctor just had said.

Aaron lifted Olivia into his arms and sat down in the chair beside my bed. Aaron was going to be a wonderful dad. “Don’t think I didn’t notice what the doctor said” he said playing with Olivia’s small hands. I looked at him with a question on my face. “One day you’ll be my wife” he said not taking his eyes of Olivia. “I can’t wait” I said and pictured myself in a wedding dress, Aaron in a suit and Olivia as a flower girl in a church surrounded by friends and family.

I woke up. I must have slept all night because the sun was shining through the windows, the curtains didn’t help at all I was still exhausted and my body was aching when I moved. I managed to roll over to my side. Aaron was sitting next to Olivia’s bed, watching her. “Hey you” I mumbled and he turned around. He still had that smile on his face that I hadn’t seen before. He scooped his chair over next to my bed and Olivia’s bed between us. “She looks like you” he said twinning his little finger into Olivia’s hand. Aaron’s phone made a low beep and he reached for it. “Read it” he said giving it to me. “What? You’re busy?”
“Yes” he said not taking his eyes of Olivia. “Well, it’s from Jack and he said” I said before pausing.
“He said what?” Aaron looked at me.
“Archie wants Olivia’s phone number” I said laughing.
“Oh no, she’s not dating until she’s thirty.” Aaron made me laugh even more. The pain running through my body was bearable. “You’re going to be a great dad Aaron.”
