Seoyoung's POV
"N-next week?"
"Of course. You haven't forgotten the deal you made, the reason why Daniel's still alive, hm?"
"Y-yes, of course." I had completely forgotten, but who could blame me?
"Anything you would specifically like?"
"N-no. I don't mind," I say, not caring at this point. (Although trusting Taehyung's tastes would be a safe gamble) It's not even a real wedding, so what's the point? Smiling, Taehyung stands up from the table, then, walks over to kiss the top of my head.
"Well, this has been wonderful, eating with you, but I have business to attend to so, you may do whatever you please," he says pleasantly. However, his eyes give me a warning look, as if saying I'll know if you do anything out of line. "I look forward to eating with you for the years to come- Ah. One more thing." He waves his hand and a man dressed in a clean black suit and pitch-black hair enters the room. "This is Jeon Jungkook, your personal bodyguard. He will be following you everywhere, and I mean everywhere. This is obviously for your own safety, a lot of people are out to get me, as you'd probably guess." Then he swept out of the room, leaving me with Jungkook. He's not here to protect me, more like to keep an eye on me. I turned to Jungkook and smiled at him. Surprisingly, he smiled back.
"Hello, I'm Jeon Jungkook and I will be your personal bodyguard. If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask," he said warmly. This is not how I imagined some gang lord's bodyguard would act. Even in the professional business world, bodyguards never talked and gave off cold auras. Jungkook was not the same. "So, where to Miss Moon?"
"Umm, what time is it?" Jungkook drew up the sleeve on his left arm and checked his watch, which turned out to be a Rolex. Wow, Taehyung must pay his followers well.
"It's 11:40 PM," Jungkook answered.
"Right, well, I can't sleep anyway, so, can you show me where the gardens are?" Jungkook nods.
"Which part?"
"Uhhh, any part, really. I just want some fresh air."
"Alright, this way." With me trailing behind, Jungkook guides me through the penthouse to the elevator, pressing the 'Lobby' button. I forgot how aggressive this elevator was, and I would have flown and hit my head on the ceiling if Jungkook hadn't quickly held on to me. We made a soft landing on the ground level, of which I collapsed onto the carpet. Down was definitely worse than up. "Are you okay?" Jungkook asks while supporting me. That's all I seem to be hearing lately.
Breathing deeply, I answer, "Yeah... Just not used to it, that's all." When I eventually had feeling back in my legs, Jungkook leads me through the lobby to another set of double oak doors, the same as the one in my bedroom. When he opens it, I found myself faced with another set of double doors except this time, they were metal and square, not arched at the top. It also seemed to be heavy and armed, hence the sound of whirring mechanics issued from the doors. Jungkook first scans his fingerprint, then his eye, then his watch, which seemed to have some access chip inside. Whoa, why so many checkpoints?
Seemingly to have read my thoughts, Jungkook says, "It leads to the outside so, it needs to be more heavily guarded than other doors because we don't want anyone... unauthorized exiting... or entering." It was almost like he was talking about the prisoners down in the basement, like even if they escaped from down there, they would never make it anyway. Taehyung was giving those prisoners false hope. But then again, thinking back to those soulless cries, it didn't seem like they had any hope left, as if they already knew their fate. "Uhh, Miss Moon-?"
"Seoyoung. You can just call me Seoyoung," I say quietly.
"Alright, Seoyoung. Let's go." I blinked, realizing the doors were already open, letting in the cool breeze of Seoul's night air. I breathed it in, thinking, who knew one of the most powerful gangs in the world operates right under our nose? Side by side, Jungkook and I step out into the beautiful gardens, which yet again was grander than ever, with the largest diversity of flowers I've ever seen. Rather than being organized by type, there seemed to be a different plant after another, in no specific order. Some rose bushes, white roses, chrysanthemums... The range of flowers expanded all around the estate and beyond the hill. What caught my eye the most, however, was the ring of cherry blossom trees surrounding a gazebo. It seemed a bit odd, this garden was well-tended and extensive, but based on the dust on the door when we walked in, it didn't seem like it was visited often. Why would Taehyung keep such a garden when he doesn't even come here?
"Hey, Jungkook," I start.
"Yes?"
"Is Taehyung obsessed with flowers or something?" I try to ask as casually as possible, but Jungkook works in a gang, he obviously sensed something was up.
"I'm not too sure, you'd have to ask him," he answers shortly. Maybe I would ask him. He was hiding something, and I was going to find out what it is.
"Okay." Then we walked around the garden together, Jungkook enlightening me with his extensive flower knowledge, introducing the different types and their unique qualities.
"Wow, you seem to know a lot about flowers, hm?" I tease. Jungkook blushes slightly.
"I mean, I used to like coming here often when I just joined the gang. It was as close as I could get to home, but then inside slowly became home after I found out what Taehyung really was like." I raised my eyebrow.
"Why did you join Nightingale in the first place? Why would you throw away your normal innocent life in exchange for this?" I asked in wonder. Just why would anyone want to meddle in this kind of business?
"It wasn't my choice. My dad sold me off to pay off a debt he owed Taehyung's father. They were going to sell me off as an underground labour worker, but Taehyung became my friend, he was still young then, of course. Only fifteen at the time, but he took care of me, and begged his father to let me stay with him. So, I really owe Taehyung my life." Jungkook's voice had grown quiet and his eyes sparkled with tears. Feeling that it'd be inappropriate to ask more, I circled my arms around his neck and hugged him, feeling his pain.
He hugged back, crying onto my shoulder.
