PREVIOUSLY: Her stomach was an Olympic gymnast, doing flip after flip, as her mind stuck itself to the idea of ending up in jail tonight.
Someone's hand grabbed her shoulder, then it disappeared with a muttered apology. Jade was jumping up and down beside her. People were crowded all around her, and Ellody still couldn't believe they'd managed to get in so easily. She wondered how many people in here had snuck in, too. It didn't help security that the venue was outdoors, and a large stage was set up in the middle with fences around the outside. Anyone could slip underneath it, or climb over the portable toilets. Or walk right through the front doors, as Ellody, Sienna and Jade had done. Now they were safe - they all had lanyards on and were singing along to Nick's Jealous, halfway through the concert.
It was still bright out, with the sun setting slowly behind the stage. The trio on stage looked amazing with the sunset behind them, singing and playing guitars and slapping each other's backs randomly. Ellody slowly started to forget that she was there illegally - she was having fun. Jade grabbed the Brown sister's arms and yelled something, pointing to a spot that had opened up closer to the stage. The three girls ran forward as more teenage girls closed around them, saying hello and joining in the jumping. Jade found someone from school that Ellody recognised and made her stay with them, dancing and shouting lyrics, pointing at the boys and at each other. Ellody grabbed her sister's arm and grinned. Sienna grinned back. The song finished, and the girls clapped, whooping and whistling.
"How's everyone doing tonight?" Joe Jonas called into the crowd, and Ellody, along with every other person in the crowd, screamed.
"Ah, that's good," Nick muttered into the mic, and there was another round of screaming, following them laughing. More screaming. Ellody thought her eardrums might burst, but she was happily screaming with everyone else. She was so excited to be seeing them in the flesh that she didn't notice that someone else had joined their tight circle.
The brothers went back to talking about what song they were doing next, and by the time they'd given the crowd enough clues as to what song they were doing, Cool played through the speakers and they started singing, setting off a fresh wave of yelling.
Ellody turned to grin at her sister, but Sienna wasn't beside her. Instead, a girl that she immediately recognised smiled back.
"Kay Cook?" Ellody yelled over the noise, her face going extremely red from shock. Ellody couldn't believe her eyes. Not here, not now, not Kay.
"Ellody Brown! Zach's best friend! Wow, I haven't seen you in ages!" Kay shouted, waving at someone behind her, who turned out to be Sienna. Ellody locked eyes with her older sister, trying to show Sienna the amount of fear she was feeling at this moment, but she didn't seem to notice - instead, she waved back and turned away from them, grabbing Jade's arms and singing along. "You've grown!" Kay added, gesturing to Ellody's figure.
"Yeah," Ellody said in the loudest voice she could muster in this state, which was about as loud as an ant. Kay made a slightly confused face before turning to look back up at the stage, waving at the boys. Of course, none of them waved back. Ellody took this moment to study Kay, noticing that her hair was absolutely beautiful, and that her skin seemed to glow. A jacket was wrapped around her waist, and a denim skirt was hidden underneath it. But her shirt took Ellody's breath away - Why Don't We merch. Of course she's wearing their merch. Of course she took the time to order it online and wait for it to get to her house. Unless Zach gave it to her? Zach's never given me free merch. Look at how pretty she is - I could never compare. Of course he picked her over me. Why did I ever believe I even had a chance with him?
"I'm so obsessed with Sucker. The setlist said it's playing last, so I've got a long night ahead of me," Kay explained loudly. Behind her, a girl was hoisted onto a guy's shoulders, and someone started yelling at her for being in the way. Before Ellody knew what was happening, someone shoved the guy in the back, and he and the girl on his shoulders toppled forward. Ellody's first instinct was to grab Kay and pull her out of the way, but her heart made the decision instead.
"AH!" a group of people screamed, and a bunch of people fell in a heap. Including Kay.
"Oh my God!" Sienna yelled, scrambling forward to help Kay out of the mess. The brothers (and the rest of the crowd) were oblivious to the security men who escorted the shover from the crowd. "Are you OK?" her sister called out to Kay. The girl brushed herself off, getting out her phone to check her hair, which was somehow still perfect, before nodding and giving half a smile.
"Yeah, now that whoever shoved him is gone," Kay yelled back, and there was a round of screaming as the song ended. Ellody wanted to leave, but she knew that now they had Kay Cook with them, they weren't leaving until Sucker played. Something else that wasn't leaving was the butterflies in her stomach - she felt immensely guilty for liking Zach and imagining herself with him, when they were together.
The concert seemed to go for way too long, and Ellody wanted to be sick by the time Year 3000 played, which was supposed to be the third-last song of the night. Sienna was enjoying herself more than Ellody had ever believed possible, and Jade couldn't stop smiling. Ellody loved them together, even though it was such a sudden change, and the Brown sisters hadn't even had time to talk about it.
