PREVIOUSLY: Ellody was about to argue back when their dad stormed down the stairs in his PJ's, and all three teenagers in the kitchen knew that they were in danger.
"STOP YELLING!" the man yelled ironically, stopping at the bottom of the stairs. Ellody instinctively grabbed the frying pan off the stove and held it at her side, ready to do whatever it took to get out of this alive.
"Says the man yelling," Sienna replied. Ellody took safety in knowing Jonah was right there, and that Sienna wasn't afraid of him.
"Oh, so you're back now, are you? Had a nice little holiday from your horrible family? Ungrateful kid. I put the clothes on your backs, and you don't have the decency to sit at the table for dinner," he began, knowing that he'd get a reaction out of Sienna.
"I cannot believe you just said that. You have done nothing for this family. I know for a fact that you don't contribute a single dollar to our monthly bills that mum pays, and I know you don't legally have to contribute. I've checked, trust me," Sienna explained challengingly. Ellody wondered how long this argument would go for until their mum came down and sent them all upstairs. It was inevitable. I can't believe Jonah's watching this... how embarrassing...
"What is going on down here?" their mum asked, slowly walking down the stairs and surveying the scene. Ellody realised she was still holding the frying pan at her side, and she quickly put it back on the stovetop.
"He wishes I was still at Jade's, that's all. I personally wish he was at home, but we can't have everything," Sienna said swiftly, taking another bite out of her breakfast. Ellody started getting busy making her own breakfast as their dad practically exploded, becoming mad that Sienna wasn't 'bonding' with him, which immediately set her off on a rant about how the last thing she would ever do was bond with such a horrible person. Her words, not Ellody's.
Jonah appeared at Ellody's side, wrapping an arm around her waist as she whisked the eggs and milk together for the third time that morning. Ellody prayed that he wouldn't do anything lse affectionate in front of her parents - if her mum knew they were dating and sleeping in the same bed, that would be the end of his stay, and she'd be grounded for who knew how long. It wouldn't make much of a difference. She stayed home a lot as it is.
"I'm here for you," Jonah whispered in her ear.
"I know," Ellody whispered back as the yelling continued between Sienna and their parents.
"Mum, there's no way we'll ever get along with an absent father. It's just not happening," Sienna explained exasperatedly.
"If you don't want me here, then I'll go," their dad decided.
"Oh, please. I've been waiting for you to leave early," Sienna sighed, eating more toast and eggs. Their mum looked between them sadly before walking into her office off the kitchen and shutting the door. She never went into her office unless she wanted to cry by herself downstairs.
"Where'd she go?" the man asked.
"Into her office to cry alone. She used to do it almost every day after you left, when we were younger. But then she grew stronger. This is all your fault," Sienna spat, running upstairs. Neither Brown sister could bear it when their mum went into the office. It shocked Ellody every time that her mum was a person that cried, not just her strong mother who could solve any problem. But clearly, after not being able to solve the problem with their dad, she needed time to herself.
Their dad stood at the bottom of the staircase for a few seconds before he walked outside and shut the screen door, leaving Jonah and Ellody alone downstairs.
