~COMPLETED~
Ellody Brown, a high-school girl who happens to be Zach Herron's best friend since childhood, hasn't told Zach how she feels about him. But what happens when feelings for someone else come in between them? Ellody struggles with anxiety...
PREVIOUSLY: "I love it. Now we can go," Ellody assured him. Zach bit his lip happily and pulled the door open with one hand in his pocket, waiting for her to leave first before shutting it behind them.

"Do you have a ticket booked for tomorrow?" Ellody's mum asked, serving lasagna out of the pot on everyone's plates.
"Yeah, Jonah booked it when he booked for me to get here," Zach explained, picking up his knife and fork as a slab of food was dropped on his plate. "Thanks, this looks amazing," he added, digging in. Ellody watched him with a smile. Of course he didn't book his own plane ticket. Zach wouldn't have a clue how to do it himself. I can't believe Jonah helped him, though.
"Ellody, how much do you want?" her mum offered.
"I'm starving," she replied, holding out her plate. The woman piled a heap of food onto her plate, and Ellody smiled in thanks before eating.
"I still can't believe you two," Sienna began, pointing her fork between Ellody and Zach, "are a thing. I have a lot of questions." Ellody shot her sister a look, but she didn't see it. She hadn't told her mum that they were together yet, and was planning to tell her when he left.
"Oh, really? As of when?" the woman frowned, staring at her youngest daughter. Ellody squirmed in her seat, attempting to avoid eye contact, but her mum had a way of getting her to spill the beans.
"Well..." she started, but Zach cut her off.
"Today," he stated, winking at Ellody. Her face felt hot, and she wanted to sink into the floor. Her mum was alright with her dating Jonah, so surely she'd be OK with her and Zach?
"Well. If you're staying here tonight, the couch upstairs is free," she nodded quickly, flashing Ellody a smile before excusing herself to go to the bathroom.
"That was kind of weird," Ellody whispered, glancing at Zach.
"Give her a minute. I'm sure my mum will react the same way," he assured her, putting his fork down to place a hand on her knee comfortingly.
"You've been friends for years, and suddenly you're dating. She probably thinks you've been lying to her all this time," Sienna shrugged. Panic shot through Ellody at her sister's words, and she prayed her mum didn't think that.

ZACH'S POV:
"You've been friends for years, and suddenly you're dating. She probably thinks you've been lying to her all this time," Sienna smirked. Zach felt Ellody tense up beside him, and he shot Sienna a look.
"Seriously?" he muttered, rubbing Ellody's knee slowly to remind her that everything was fine.
"Come on, imagine thinking two people you're close to were just friends and suddenly they say that they're together. Wouldn't you freak out? I wouldn't expect her to be cool with it straight up," Sienna added, frowning at Zach.
"But she knows she can trust him, since he's practically part of the family already," Ellody interjected. Zach's cheeks went slightly pink, glad that she thought so. He glanced up at Sienna, who was staring at her phone. Ellody nudged his foot and gave him a small smile, which he instantly returned.

ELLODY'S POV:
Her electric toothbrush vibrated in her hand as she brushed her teeth, trying not to laugh as Zach danced like a monkey to Trust Fund Baby.
"I on wan no ust und ayy," he sang, spitting in the sink before laughing. Ellody grinned, watching him rinse his mouth out and continuing to sing. "And I say to people, that's my lady," Zach smiled, winking at her. Butterflies filled her stomach as she joined him to sing the last line of the chorus.
"And we don't need nothing e-e-e-else," they sang before bursting into laughter as toothpaste dribbled down her chin. She washed out her mouth and dried her brush as they danced around the bathroom together, bopping their heads to the music. Ellody's face ached from smiling.
"I missed this," Zach shouted, wrapping his arms around Ellody's waist and spinning her in circles. Ellody giggled loudly and slapped his shoulder, telling him to put her down, but he refused.
"Zach, I-"
"Kiss me."
Ellody pressed her lips against his before quickly pulling away as IDK You by Kay Cook started playing from the speaker, and Ellody's stomach dropped. Even when she wasn't there, her presence seemed to pop up every few minutes, and it sucked.
Zach lowered her to the ground before skipping the song, his jaw clenched.
"Sorry, it's just a random Spotify playlist," he mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck and looking in the mirror. Ellody hesitated before stepping forward and staring at his reflection. He was right there, and he was hers, but Kay had shoved herself between them once again.
"It's fine. But I did want to talk about her with you. There's just so much drama and I don't want to be kept in the dark about any of it," Ellody explained breathlessly, hoping he'd understand. Zach sighed, closing his eyes taking a deep breath.
"Yes. We do need to talk about her," he admitted, biting his lip and reaching for Ellody's hand. She let him take it, and he rubbed his fingers over her knuckles. His touch calmed her racing heart as fast as someone flicking a switch, and Ellody knew that this conversation was going to be weird and awful, but it had to happen.
"I know we just brushed our teeth, but... can we go get ice cream and sit outside? Just while we talk about her?" Ellody asked, watching his face carefully. His eyes lit up at the mention of ice cream, and he nodded.
"You're so perfect," he muttered, kissing her cheek before opening the bathroom door and gesturing for her to walk out first.
