(Aria's POV)

"Where are we going?" I asked as we sat in the rental car.

"Someplace safe." Ryu said.

He was silent the whole plane ride. The second the plane touched down in New York, he changed. His whole body tensed and he went on high alert.

Ryu, or Akuma, in unfamiliar territory with this many people had a way making him seem more insane. No one would notice, but his hand was never to far away from his knife and he was always scanning the environment looking for outs, potential weapons, and potential enemies. It's how he's wired.

We traveled through the heart of the city until we reached an abandoned building. Inside, the top floor was built as an industrial loft.

"Another one of your secret places?" I asked.

"Something like that."

He opened a door to the left of us to reveal all kinds of monitors. The entire perimeter was covered on those monitors.

"Let me guess, you have motion sensors to?" I asked.

"Yeah. No one gets in or out without me knowing. No one gets near this building without me knowing. Bullet proof windows, sound proof walls, and an underground garage." He said.

"So this is an extremely safe place."

"Yeah."

"What's first on the agenda?" I asked.

"You st-"

"Nope." I shook my head.

"Aria,"

"Ryu, I don't want to stay here. It's a big city and I know no one. The last time I was here, I was being held captive and beaten. You're not about to leave me alone."

We stared at each other for several minutes before he sighed.

"Fine, but-"

"I know, I know."

He shook his head. "Let's go."

We got in the car and headed for Little Tokyo. Ryu was convinced that if anyone knew anything they'd be there somewhere. He parked a block outside of Little Tokyo and walked the rest.

We were about to walk into a bar when Ryu stopped causing me bump into his back. He turned around to face to me before he spoke.

"Stay behind. Don't speak."

"Got it." I nodded.

We walked into the bar to find it fairly packed. It made sense since our flight was twelve hours long so that made it in the evening time here in New York.

Few people paid us any attention as we walked in and took a seat at the bar.

"What can I get you?" The bartender asked.

Deciding that I was hungry, I spoke before Ryu had a chance and ordered us some food. He quickly gave me a look to which I responded with a shrug.

"Anything else?" The bartender asked as he sat our food down in front of us minutes later.

Ryu reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a picture. It was a picture of my mother.
