Chapter 3: My Mission

A couple of days later Spades asked me to meet her at the library. My mom dropped me off and we began finishing the 1000 piece puzzle from a few days ago. Unfortunately we only found 999 pieces of this puzzle and therefore Spades was mad. 

We walked across the street to this pizza place and I called Clubs. What I didn't expect was for Diamonds to answer the phone. I didn't even notice until he pointed it out. We invited them to the pizza place with us. They agreed, but first they had to stop and pick up John. After we order a pepperoni pizza and sit down, The little tv that they had in the corner was playing Friends. After a while, Spades decided to check on the guys and see where they were. They tried to be funny and pretend to be lost. While Spades was yelling at them over the phone, I saw them walking by from across the street. I couldn't leave the table or the employees would take the rest of the pizza.  I tried texting Spades, but she didn't see it because her phone was put to her face.

I would've yelled, but there were other people in the restaurant. Spades was fuming when she saw them sitting at our table after 10 minutes of being 'lost'. I gave her a sympathetic look as she walked over. We talked about the puzzle and I remembered that Diamonds is allergic to tomatoes. I was worried at first but, we weren't far from a hospital if things went wrong.

Spades bought the boys another whole pizza and they graciously thanked her. After they ate that, we started walking to the dollar store. On our way, I noticed the way that Spades and Clubs were walking. You could see the natural desire for them to be around each other from 3 miles away. They were so drawn to each other that it's  almost unreal. At the dollar store the boys bought cereal and I bought a cute plastic container of Hershey's kisses. 

Next we started walking to Clubs' house. Spades and Clubs were walking as if they were in a bubble and no one could see them. It's strange because when I ask them about it they don't seem to remember. Back to the story . John was the first to stray from the group. He went across the street to talk to a friend.  When we turned to the next block I waived at a friend from middle school. John and Diamonds saw and asked me if that was my brother. I tried to clarify that he's just a friend and they pretended that they couldn't hear me. Spades and Clubs were still in front of us, walking like an adorable zombie couple.

When we arrived at the house, Clubs decided to give the girls a tour. Our first stop was the basement. I didn't go because I have arachnophobia. Diamonds walked over locked them in the basement. With the lovebirds gone Diamonds asked me, " So, what's your side. " Then he pointed to the basement.

I was confused at first, but then I understood that he was talking about our oblivious friends and I answered honestly,"She said that she doesn't have feelings for anyone." He didn't press for more information. Next thing I heard was Spades and Clubs  realizing that they were locked in. Diamonds and John were laughing. Diamonds unlocked the door and let them out. He told them it was because it was funny but I think it was part of his strategy.  We went up a flight of stairs and finished the house tour. Then we sat down to play another short round of Dungeons and Dragons.

Clubs was complaining about being tired and we stared at him in annoyance. We started a one shot led by John. At some point we stopped playing and went to go bother Clubs. Spades went directly wake him up. After a few moments, they were being an adorable couple again. I went to talk to Diamonds and John because Spades and Clubs were in their own world. They think i'm weird because I like Nightwing in a non platonic way.  After a while, John left and it was just the 4 of us. 

Diamonds looked over at Spades and Clubs and whispered," this is pissing me off."

I responded with," Why, they're so cute."

He then clarified that it's because Clubs told him that he likes Spades and clearly it looks like the feeling is mutual.

I told him that Spades said she's asexual and, therefore doesn't like anyone.

his response was ,"I call bullshit. She's making up excuses."

We started  arguing about whether we had the right to tell someone their own sexuality. 

He asked me to help them get together like we're some type of matchmaking company. I said yes and we agreed to communicate through discord. I've played spy before, but this was my first official mission. 

 Suddenly Spades' mom was outside and we were leaving. We said goodbye and rushed out the door with our coats half on. I forgot about my Hershey's kisses and left them behind.
