The bed didn't feel right. I rolled over and extended my arm out, sweeping my hand across the opposite side of the mattress. Hoping to pull Jocelyn's normally curled up form back into my chest, where she belongs. But to my displeasure, all my hand felt were chilled, empty sheets.
In the absence of the sound coming from the bathroom, my eyes flew open. I scanned the room to find her nowhere in sight. Just as the panic began to settle in, her comforting heartbeat found its way into my ears.
Sounds of popping and sizzling echoed down the hallway coming from the kitchen. I leaned against the counter and watched as she stood facing the stove. Although she had her own, she continued to wear my clothes at night. My scent worked medicinally to help her fall back asleep and calm her after night terrors.
My eyes wandered down her bare legs to see her standing on her tiptoes. I watched in fascination as she stood there balancing on her flexed toes like a dancer. She bent her right knee, positioning the top of her foot on the floor tiles and stretching.
Her head rolled backwards and she let out a sigh as she bent herself deeply before she switched to her left foot. Not being able to handle the distance any longer I walked up behind her and wove my arms around her middle.
To my surprise, she asked, "What took you so long?"
"How are you making that?" I asked, changing the subject. She glanced up at me before pushing the scrambled eggs around the pan with a spatula.
"I watched you make them... and I used your cellular phone." She explained with child-like wonder heavy in her voice, "I pressed on the bottom of the screen and this woman asked me if I need help."
I couldn't hold back a laugh, "You're adorable."
I swept her hair to the side and nuzzled my nose into her neck. I breathed in her sunshine scent as deeply as I could to a reasonable degree. Just as I was about to kiss her mark she spun around in my arms. A wicked grin plastered on her face. Her doe eyes flickering in colour before they settled to her usual mystic blue. She slowly lifted her hand and ran the tips of her impossibly soft fingers across my bottom lip.
Jasper stirred with excitement, anxious to fulfill his mately duties. The small fingers continued to wander, sliding along my lips and across my cheek. They continued their exploration along the edge of my ear. Stopping to land when her hand was wrapped tightly around the back of my neck. I watched her curiously as her tongue seductively slipped out from her parted lips. Jasper furiously bit and scratched at the thin barrier separating us.
My breathing picked up with the effort to remain in control. My lower abdomen clenched as she skillfully flipped the tip of her tongue upwards and swiped along the length of her top lip. Her eyes playfully regarded mine, studying them intently before she snuck a peek at the extended pant region.
With quick steps she sprung away from me, walking across the kitchen, her eyes glued to mine. My hands fisted at my sides, but I sensed a test in the air and somehow knew my restraint was the key to its success. She stopped when her back was pressed against the wall on the opposite across the room. She stood there for close to a minute...just, starring at me.
Slowly and to my delight, her mischievous grin transformed into a genuine smile.
"You...you really are different, aren't you?" She said, almost to herself, beaming up at me.
Before I had the chance to respond, her body soared through the air. Slamming into mine with enough force that I lost my balance and stumbled into the ledge of the countertop. She didn't seem to notice and was more concerned with wrapping her nimble legs around my hips and hooking her ankles behind my back.
