The closer to the gym I get the less sure I am of the plan. I think a cloud of insanity must have come over me because nothing else would have made me leave my perfect spot on the warm grass, securely tethered to my mate's gentle spirit. The air feels wrong without him around.
As I walk, the passing Clan member's souls brush against mine; Some are timid and unassuming while others are loud and bruising, pushing their way into me before I can get away or try to force my light into submission. They tempt me to peek inside them, and it is tempting, very tempting. I know Alex says that every member of the Pack is different from the kinds of creatures I've gotten used to but there are so many people here. they can't all be good, and if the other night showed me anything it is that.
I breach the gymnasium's double doors, close my eyes and take a big deep breath trying to ready myself for them. I open my eyes to see someone standing right in front of me, very close and I jump, my hand shooting out as fast as lightning and striking him palm first in the sternum. Just as quickly his hand slaps over mine pinning it to his chest. It's Dylan.
His warm honey eyes brighten and he smiles. "Great technique, expect you want to really plant your feet next time and pivot. Remember, your power comes from your stance." He releases my hand with a soft pat before stepping backwards and lazily crossing his arms. "I didn't expect to see you down here, what's up?"
What is up--
I go to open my mouth and tell him about my plan but suddenly it feels all wrong, like a betrayal of some kind. But more than that I just feel silly... what would happen after I got him to agree to take me back, he'd tell Alex, if not ask him first and then where would I be... Caught in the act, waiting to be punished--
No, that's not right, Alex hurting me is even more ridiculous than my stupid plan was.
Well, it wouldn't make any sense to walk back to the house now so I might as well make the most of it. "I was just. . .wanting to be helping train with you."
His eyes widen with surprise mixed with his toothy inviting grin making him look like couldn't hurt a fly. "You want to help me train the new recruits?" He asks, voice full of disbelief.
"mhhmm," I nod.
Behind him are a group of men, they are standing shoulder-width apart with their hands clasped rigidly behind their rim rod straight backs; Silently awaiting instruction.
'The Luna's here' . . .
'That's the Luna's'
'She's here!'
'LUNA'
. . . 'Luna'
'Is she training us?'
. . . 'hope she stays to teach us,'
'So beautiful,'
'Scary,'
'she doesn't look real,'
'What. Is. She?'
'Everything about her is white, even her eyelashes. Weird.'
'Doesn't look like us...'
'I feel like if I stare at her long enough I'll explode.'
'I could take her,'
'I can't look away.'
'I kinda wanna touch her,'
. . . 'Alpha's so lucky'
