Lonely in the cold nights.

Y/n was never the type to complain but the pain in her legs made her want to scream.

She tugged on Peter's left sleeve.

'there.'  He mouthed.

Peter pointed to an apartment building the y/n knew all too well.

She tilted her head confused as to why Peter brought her to her own home.

'He knows where I live?' She thought.

Her mind began to fill with things she fought not to think about.

'Peter isn't like that' she thought.

Peter went through the back door with y/n hesitantly following him. This was the first time a gap separated them from one another.

He looked through the halls of the apartment complex on the first floor.

Blood covered the white tile below them, the smell of death violently attacking their nostrils, y/n constantly felt like someone had been watching them, the uncomfortable sense of feeling eyes on her made her shiver.

She hadn't noticed Peter's sudden halt until she bumped into him.
His eyes were glued to the Crawler sitting before them.

y/n noticed her apartment had been just a few doors down but the Crawler was closer. They both knew that any sudden noises would result in a gruesome death.

Peter wanted to break down, he felt like a failure, as if it were already over. The feeling of pure disappointment burned a hole through his chest, a hole he wanted to get rid of forever.

y/n wasn't sure about what to do, her suspicions on Peter were high, but she refused to think the worst.

The two teens had thoughts of their own, but hey still stood before the creature that could rip them both to shreds within a matter of seconds.

The devil on y/n's shoulder told her to push him in front of her and save herself.

It was the right thing to do, right? I mean how could he know how to get to her apartment complex without her even telling him? Why'd he really stay with her?  What was his real plan?

But the Angel told her that Peter was the kindest, sweetest, humblest person to ever walk the Earth. He wouldn't hurt her, he wouldn't hurt anyone, despite how people treated him, despite how people talked about him, he'd never do anything of that nature.

She liked Peter, she really liked Peter, but certain things just didn't add up.

But then again, she wasn't a killer, she'd known this kid since grade school, and deep down she knew she wouldn't be able to live with herself.

'I can't do that to him.' She thought, staring at that creature that struggled to find its way around the dark hall.

y/n slowly took off her backpack and set it on the ground.

She blacked out, it was like her mind and completely slipped away, her feet began to move and the only thing she could think about was protecting Peter.

But when Peter saw her figure pass by he began to panic, he reached for her. He wanted to hold her, he wanted to keep her safe, he wanted to make her feel like nothing would ever hurt her.

But she slipped away.

His heart shattered inside his chest. He felt like the shards of his broken heart were stabbing him in places he didn't even know existed.

'Think Peter THINK!' He shouted at himself.

He watched the girl get closer to the creature.

Without thinking his feet left the ground and a large thud echoed through the hall.

The Crawler ran right past her.
Her eyes filled with terror when she saw the creature run to find its next meal. She turned to look for Peter thinking he'd been the cause of the thud, but her mind scrambled when she saw an empty dark hallway.

"Grab the bags and get inside!" Peter's voice boomed from above her.

Y/n pried her head up watching as Peter hung from the ceiling.

'You've got to be kidding me!'

He'd made so much noise that another Crawler emerged from the darkness.

"Go! Please!" He begged.

She grabbed both backpacks and hurried to her apartment door. Using the spare key on the top of the door she managed to make it inside her apartment.

Although she was officially safe within the four walls of her own home, her biggest concern was Peter.

She could hear the snarling beasts attack the floors and walls in attempt to reach wherever Peter had gone next. She debated on leaving the door open so that Peter could find his way in when she noticed: 'It's quiet.'

'it's really quiet.'
