Chapter 6: A Mistake?

*Skips to Friday*
*Sofia's Pov*
BEEP BEEP BEEP. I woke up to my alarm clock. I quickly took a shower. Left my hair in its natural curls. Then I put on a striped black and white tank top with my teal maxi skirt. I decided to wear my black and white flats. I was anxious to find out what schedule I had and I hoped Anna, Michele and I would get at least a couple classes together. I walked to school while texting Anna and Michele.

*Group Chat*
Michele: OMG gurl did you look at the ranks?!? 😐 I'm #30
Anna: I saw them 😻 #19 👏
Sofia: I just checked... #27 😱
Michele: WHAT?!? I need Kian to ask me out 😒
Anna: Michele, we'll think of something. Don't worry about it
Sofia: Yeah, everything is gonna be fine 👌

I locked my phone then heard running behind me. I looked back. It was Hayes. "Hey Hayes!" I said waving. "Hey. What's up?" He asked while panting because he was running. "I looked at the ranks today. I'm number 27!" I said sounding happy. "Wow. Good Job!" He said. "Hayes?" I said. "Yeah?" He replied. "Don't dump Elizabeth. If she makes you happy then stay with her. I'm not saying this because of popularity. I'm saying this cause I don't wanna ruin anything for you. I'm your best friend again which makes me happy. I don't need anything else. Just being your friend again is all I wanted." I said looking at him straight in his blue eyes. "Really? I can be your best friend and Elizabeth's girlfriend?!?" He replied. "Of course. I won't mind and hopefully Elizabeth won't either." I said. "Thanks Sofia." He said bringing me into a hug. "No problem." I said putting my head into his shoulder. Truth is I didn't like Hayes. I loved him. But if I went out with him, Elizabeth would ruin my life. Who knows, maybe Hayes will be mine soon. When Hayes and I walked into the school we let go of our hug to remain 'friends' and the whole 8th grade was sent to the auditorium to receive their schedules. I sat next to Michele. Anna and Matthew were in the back making out. Kian was in the front with Hayes and Elizabeth. "Good Morning ladies and gentlemen." Mrs. Mendes said as she making her way on stage. She cleared her throat. "All the teachers and I worked very hard to determine your classes. I will call out your name and hand you your schedule.

*Skips to when everyone gets their schedule*

I was so happy to find out Michele and Anna were in the same homeroom as me. And to top it off, we had the same schedules. I found out Elizabeth, Hayes, Kian, and Matthew were in the same homeroom as us as well. Everyone was told to go to homeroom. My homeroom teacher, Mr. Rivera gave us assigned seats. I was put in the back of the room. On my left was Anna. On the right was Elizabeth. In front of me was Kian. Michele and Hayes were assigned to sit in the front. The teacher said we had 5 minutes to talk. I just wanted to review my schedule.

1st Period: English - Mr. Rivera
2nd Period: Math - Mrs. Davis
3rd Period: Lunch
4th Period: Gym - Coach Grier / Music - Mrs. Humbley (switches off every other day)
5th Period: Spanish - Señora Luna
6th Period: World History - Mr. Birkalowsa

Hayes then comes up to me. "Hey. Can I see your schedule?" He asks. I show it to him. "We have 1st, 3rd and 4th period together." He says. He smiles then walks back to his seat. "Hey." I hear someone say. I look next to me and it was Elizabeth. "Oh hi." I said sounding a little scared. "Can I see your schedule?" She asks. "Sure." I reply. "We have the same schedule!" She says acting all innocent but I know something's up. My heart dropped. Great, I have to spend all my classes with this lunatic.

*Skips to Lunch*

I walked to lunch with Michele. And we found an empty table to sit at. Elizabeth was talking to me a lot today. She was actually nice to me. Was it cause I've changed. I decided to check my rank. I was #12 WHAT THE HECK. I show Anna and Michele. "Woah dude. Something must be up. Elizabeth and you were like rivals but now she raised you up to number 12?" Michele said. "Wait I wanna check mine." She says as she gets her phone. "I'm number 15 guys!" She says practically jumping out of her seat. Anna also checks. "I'm number 9!" Anna says making the biggest smile she has ever made. I looks to see what Hayes was. He was number 3.. What? Elizabeth was number 1. This guy Shawn Mendes was number 2. Huh? Kian was number 20. But I was still confused on how Shawn had a better rank than Elizabeth's boyfriend, Hayes. Matthew came to sit with us. He gave a kiss to Anna on her cheek and said, "I love you babe." Anna smiled and blushed. "Awww." Michele and I said at the same time. I saw Hayes from the other side of the Cafeteria. Elizabeth was next to him but wasn't talking to him. She was talking to the guy on her other side. That's probably Shawn Mendes. Hayes looked left out. I felt bad. I invited him over and he agreed. Elizabeth watched him leave, but she didn't mind. She smiled. What's going on? All 5 of us conversed when Hayes brought up news about our trip to Miami next week. "OMG your both soooo lucky." Michele said sounding happy as always. "Have fun." Anna said giving me a smirk. "Not too much fun though" she added. We all laughed at how weird Anna could possible be.

*Skips to End of school*
I was walking out of my 6th period class when I saw Hayes with watery eyes talking to Elizabeth. I decided to eavesdrop. "Hayes, I think we should move on. Maybe it's for the best." I heard Elizabeth say. "But, there's most likely a reason." He says. "I found someone new. Shawn. Shawn Mendes. And you will find someone new who will make you happier than me. I promise." I heard her say as I her walk away. Hayes just walks to his locker and just stands there. I feel so bad but I don't wanna interfere. I'll talk to him later on tonight. I decided to walk home by myself. "Hey Sofia! Wait up." I heard Elizbeth say behind me. "Oh hey!" I say acting as if I never heard anything about the breakup. "You can have Hayes. The truth is I only dated him to make you jealous." She said looking down at the ground. "What?" I say. "I've been mad at you cause I was jealous of you. Your grades. All the things you achieved. I'm so sorry for hurting Hayes, but there's only way to heal him." She says feeling guilty. "And what is that?" I say putting sas into my tone. "You. Your the key to open up his heart again." She tells as she walks away. Was Elizabeth and Hayes breaking up a good thing? Do I have a shot? I continue walking home thinking about it.
