The shock from the nightmare woke me up in a rush, my body was covered in sweat; my bones where aching and i couldn't breathe. I looked around and was relieved too see that i was back in my room. I laid there in my bed several minutes, looking up at the ceiling, thinking about how real that had felt. I jumped out of bed and flicked the lights on as i walked up to my mirror, my face was all red and beads of sweat lined my forehead.

These night- mares have been going on for over a month now but the weird thing about them is, the man who kills me. Hes always in them, wearing the exacted same black cloak; his cat likes eyes burning into my soul as he stares at me, getting ready to kill me.

I was way to freaked out to go back to sleep so instead i chose to get dressed and ready for school, even though the sun had barely broken through the clouds yet. I sat in my room for a while finishing some of my homework and anything i could do to take my mind of off it. After a while i decided to head down stairs, i walked out onto the landing and could already hear my mum down stairs making breakfast.

I walked down the stairs, each step creaking under my weight. We live in a big old farm house about a twenty-minute walk away from civilization. The house has been around for years, which means that the whole floor creaks when you walked along it and the outside looks like it's being eaten alive by termites. The walls inside are a horrible olive-green color and the floors are a pale grey. The kitchen looks like something from the Victorian days, we have cupboards that look like there about to fall of the walls any day now.

"Morning" i said softly as i walked into the kitchen and sat down at the breakfast table.

I hadn't told my mum about my nightmares,  worried she would think i was going crazy and then that would lead to her booking appointments with special doctors and that was last thing i wanted. I was worried about the dreams, they were getting worse each night and they scared me so much that every time someone made a loud noise or touched me, i ended up jumping out of my skin.

"Morning honey, want some breakfast?" she was standing over the stove cooking what smelled like bacon and eggs, when i looked up i noticed a big smile on her and that only meant one thing.  She had something bad to tell me.

It's been me and my mum for a while now and iv'e started to notice things about her that i hadn't noticed before. I wouldn't say that me and my mum were close but now that it's just the two of us, she was trying to be more involved in my life, which i hated because i hated being fussed over.

"Whats happened?" she looked at me and then took a deep breath and carried on cooking.

"You always know, don't you. well since you asked, i have to go back to work." i looked at her and she carried on, "I have to go to New York for a couple of weeks, i couldn't not take the opportunity to get some extra cash honey, you understand" i did but that didn't mean i liked it when she left me for a while, alone in this big house.

Mum works for a local clothing company and has to go to different places nearly every month to show of new styles. A couple of years ago i didn't mind being on my own, since it was only for a couple of days but now that we are low on money it's turned into weeks and with these nightmares, i didn't want to be alone in this big house.

"It's fine mum, i'll be OK and your right we do need the money. Badly." I got up and took a plate from the small cupboard that sat above the sink and got my breakfast. Mum carried on explaining how long she'd been gone for and what sort of new items they were making. I must admit, i found her work boring but it made mum happy and that was good enough for me.

After breakfast, i went back upstairs to finish getting ready and grabbed my school bag making sure i hadn't forgotten to pack anything, then headed back down stairs to find mum to say goodbye. I found her sitting on the bottom stair talking on her phone, she was picking at a piece of wall paper that seemed to be coming of but instead of leaving it she started to peal it off until all that was left was a small circle that was now plain instead of green.
