After an entire day of driving, we had finally reached our destination, a small motel by the sea. Since none of us were tired, we decided to drop off our bags, change into something better and walk around the town. Alison and I were sharing one room, while the boys were sharing the next. We hadn't decided anything, but I know for a fact that we are going to end up switching roommates so that Alison and Jason were together.
We went to a nearby burger joint and finished our food in record time. As we walked around, we saw a nearby club, and one look at my friends and I knew what they were planning on doing. Knowing how much I hate clubbing in the US, the four of them turned to look at me with such conviction that I had to say yes.
With glee on their faces, they all but skipped to the entrance of the club, where they showed the bouncer their fake IDs. He let all of them pass through with a simple glance at their cards, except for me, knowing how often this happens, my friends just shrugged and moved on, but not before winking at me, it honestly looked quite creepy when they all did it at the same time.
Sighing, I returned my attention to the bouncer who looked to be inspecting my ID. This was to be expected, considering that my friends all managed to look 21, except for me. After a few minutes of the bouncer closely expecting the card, and then my face, I angrily muttered: "God I wish I was in Singapore right about now."
But considering the look on the bouncer's face I don't think I was quiet enough, "Singapore?" he asked.
"Yah I've grown up in Singapore, and over there the legal age limit is 18, so no one was really suspicious of my age," I explained the reason for my irritation.
"Oh, how is Singapore? My daughter wants to go there to study but I am not so sure about it." He replied, but this time with a look on his face that wasn't the earlier blank expression.
"Oh, the universities in Singapore are amazing. It is quite difficult to get into but I can assure you that neither you nor your daughter will regret the decision if she decides to study there." I explained with a smile on my face as I remembered the competition between my classmates who had decided to study in Singapore.
"What school do you think is the best? I think she wanted to study in SMI?" the bouncer continued the conversation."NUS is the best without a doubt. I haven't heard about SMI, are you talking about SIM or SMU? Both are quite good I think." I replied as I tried to remember all the names of the colleges that were shoved down our throats during my last two years in high school.
Before the bouncer could ask any more questions, someone from the back of the line yelled at us to hurry up. With a glare to whoever decided to scream that out, the bouncer smiled, thanked me and then told me to go ahead. I smiled before heading towards my friends who looked like they were already a few glasses down. I quickly ordered a beer before sitting down next to my friends.
"I still can't believe that this happens almost every time we decide to go clubbing," Jason said with a laugh, "What did you tell him to get him to let you in this time?"
"He found out I was from Singapore and we started talking about colleges in Singapore," I replied with a shrug as I opened my bottle and began drinking.
My friends had a dumbfounded reaction on their faces as they just stared at me before laughing their heads off. "What?" I asked my hysterical friends."Only your Alia, only you" Jake muttered before our conversation turned away to whatever five, tipsy college students talk about.
