Chapter 32. RISEN.
SAMANTHA.
The smoke rose up and even though it was all around it technically wasn't touching me. More hovering very closely around me, and when I turned I noticed that it had too, I spun left, then right and it kept up perfect pace with me, never lagging behind. I began to realized it didn't exist in menace, but was trying to send a message, trying to get my attention. "Cas...um, never mind. I think-I think it's cool. Its not touching me,"
"It has to be the clue, tell her to ask it something," Abigail shouted out to Caspian like I wasn't even here, and he relayed the message. And feeling like an idiot, I asked, "So, what are you doing tonight?" to a bunch of fog clouds! "You must be kidding! Caspian this has to stop, this isn't a game! If you want to save her unworthy life, you must make her stop the foolish games." Abigail spat rather nastily and event though, I was just kidding because what they had asked me to do was insane, her words where extremely harsh. I'd be lying if I said my feeling were not hurt because of it. "Damn, sorry" I whispered out, feeling horrible, but not knowing what else to do.
"Don't ever speak to her that way again Abigail. She is not at fault, and whatever your qualms are with anything, you remember that they all rely in me. Your problem is with me, apologize now," Caspian chastised his sister like that of an older brother, and I felt like he shouldn't not because of me, I'm the outsider.
I couldn't move, and pushing my sarcasm aside, and even my hurt feelings I inhaled sharply trying to steady my emotions. I was about to ask the cloud fog another question-stupidity aside, when suddenly I smelt burning, that of a wood stove. It was my favorite smell in the whole world-no universe. There was nothing better than the smell of wood burning. Startles at this revelation, because it hadn't been there a moment ago, I chirped to Caspian of my discovery, "Cas! Cas I smell something! It want here before," I was excited, maybe Abigail wouldn't think of me as she had, and I really didn't wasn't her to I wanted everyone to like me, I didn't want to be that girl, the one someone couldn't stand, couldn't stomach.
"What is it? Is it foul?" he asked nervously, I laughed because it wasn't anything and everything but foul, "No, not at all. Its wood burning. I love it!" "I'm glad. Well is there anything else, that you notices, anything new, or out of the ordinary?" I bit back the '-you mean besides the immense fog surrounding me, you just a moment ago asked me to talk to? Yeah, nope!' because my natural self's sarcasm got me nowhere last time.
So once again pushing all that aside, I took in the small space before me and tried to take notice of anything, of everything, and so far nothing...
But then, there was something in the fog in the very small space in front of my face. There it began to swirl, turning colors from whitest white to a darkening gray highlighting the lines it was making. In and out the swirling lines wove forming a picture that swiftly wisped in and out of focus. It looked to be a flower, a very odd flower, it was so hard I was leaning forward so much, squinting so hard, my eyes were nearly closed and if I leaned any further forward I was going to fall on my face. "Caspian, I'm trying, I think I see a flower, but its really hard to see it the image keeps fading in and out. I feel like I'm going to fall forward, on my face."
"Its ok, your ok, I wont let you fall alright? Your doing great, can you see anything else?" Caspian said gently, I think he thought things were getting uncomfortable for me, but there just wasn't anything that could be done about that. I really wasn't noticing anything, different when suddenly I did, I saw wood, in fire burning and the odd shaped flower being tossed inside it. "I see wood burning in a fire, and that odd flower being tossed on top. that's it." and as soon as the words left my lips the smell died away, and the smoke floated down just as easily as it had come. I whispered goodbye to it thanking it for its help, because I felt like I had to, and then I was free. Everyone was visible once again. Caspian smiled, at my job well done, and then Abigail spoke up, "So what do we do now? That didn't make any sense, how can we know what this flower looks like?"
