"His name is Lucas Carter, son of Martin Carter who is currently serving 2 consecutive life sentences up at Rikers" Voigt slammed the two pictures on the board. "I remember him" Antonio spoke up. "He was having an affair, both of em showed up at the same time and things got messy." "I've got the file you wanted Sargent"" Nadia called breathlessly, handing the brown file to Voigt. "Thanks, take the day." Nadia looked at him suspiciously. "Um, okay. Thanks Sarg" she said slowly, grabbing her coat and keys. Voigt waited until he heard the door slam downstairs, then he spoke. "I think it's best if she doesn't know until we have more to go on" he explained. The unit nodded in agreement. Nadia and Erin had a special, sister-like connection and they knew if Nadia found out, all hell would break loose. Voigt fingered through the file, stopping occasionally to look at a page or two. "Here" he pulled out a page. He handed it around. "Lucas Carter, it says he went into foster care as soon as his father was convicted, got passed from house to house until his aunt finally took him in" Ruzek read. "The file ends after that." He passed the page to Olinsky. "Arresting officer, Hank Voigt" he read. The whole team looked at him, a mask of confusion settling over the unit. "I arrested Martin Carter" Hank explained. "But it was Erin who took care of Lucas. I think he reminded her of herself when she was that age. She made sure he got settled into a good foster home, she checked up on him every once in a while. She didn't really talk much about it, I assumed everything was fine" Voigt hesitated before he spoke the next part. "I-I found out a couple weeks ago that Lucas had gotten out of jail for possession. He's been in and out for the past 3 years." His voice cracked. After an awkward silence, Voigt spoke. "Find out all you can about this guy, where he was last seen, friends, common hangouts, you name it. Keep me posted. He said he'd call back in two hours, so be ready." With that, he walked into his office and closed the door. He sank down in his chair, resting his face in his hands. There was a light knock on the door. "Yea" Voigt called. Antonio walked in. "I know what your doing" "What am I doing?" Voigt asked. "Your blaming yourself. Whenever anything happens to someone you know, you always find a way to blame yourself" Antonio said. "You can't do this Voigt. Nobody saw this coming. It's nobody's fault. Your the leader of this unit, and if you keep doubting yourself, we're never going to find them in time. We look up to you, and if we don't have you to follow, what do we have? A leader who doubts themself isn't a leader. It's a coward. And I know you aren't a coward. If we're going to find them, we've got to do it as a team." After he had said this, he started to walk towards the door. "Antonio." He turned around to face Voigt. "Thanks. I needed that." Antonio nodded and walked out the door, closing it behind him. Voigt stared at the closed door, trying to believe what Antonio had said.
