"All this walking, and you don't even recognize my scent?" A familiar voice cooed in your ear.
You turned around and hugged the thin deer.
"I'm so glad you're okay, Louis!" Your eyes looked at him brightly. Still has those doe eyes... Louis smiled as he pet your head. "You're so thin. Let's order some vegetables."
His stomach growled at the thought of something besides meat.
"N-No, I mean, if you're hungry you can order some. I'll pay, of course." He held up a hand. "Get yourself some asparagus. My treat."
Taking the small bill he handed you, you walked up to the food stall and ordered a bowl of fresh green stalks; asparagus, celery and bok choy. It looked good. And when you came back to Louis, even he couldn't take his eyes off the bowl.
Celery... I love celery. His stomach growled again.
"If you don't eat some of it, I'll be sad and say nothing about it." You threatened.
"Oh no, the classic 'mope until someone cheers me up' routine." He chuckled, feeling at ease for the first time in days.
"That's right. And I have a lot to mope about. So if you don't get to chewing, then I'll have do this," You let your ears fall down, put your chin on the table and started drawing circles on the table, asking depressed. The worst part of it though, was you did kind of feel that way.
Satisfied that it would be seen as him sharing a meal with you, Louis tentatively ate some of the celery.
"So, why am I here?" You asked him, chomping on your asparagus happily.
"What are you doing for summer break?" Louis inquired politely. "Going home to cry to the bush dog? Pining after the wolf? Avoiding the salacious gossip of the Dall sheep?"
"I was planning on doing an unhealthy combination of all three, thank you." Your mouth laughed, but Louis saw in your face that it wasn't funny.
"Still a filthy liar, huh?" His voice had an edge to it. "It seems to me that you need some lessons in honesty. I missed out on my chance last time. But I'm going to make my offer again." Louis smiled as he finished another celery stalk, thinking to himself he needed to stop. "Stay with me during summer break. You won't have to worry about those trivial things back at school."
"Won't your parents find it strange?" You raised an eyebrow. Louis was here, once again, with the tempting offer of abandoning all your problems rather than facing them.
"Oh, it's not my father's home I am living at." His face went dark. "I took over the Shishigumi hideout."
You sighed and dragged a piece of asparagus through your teeth. "Can you ever not be the center of attention? Isn't that tiring?"
"That's a yes from you." Louis stood up and snapped. Three lions appeared behind him and you shook out of fear. "These lions won't ever touch you. If they come even a hair too close for your liking, let me know."
"Why? So you can shoot them with your gun?" You countered, still not comfortable in the least bit.
"That is one hundred percent correct." Louis smiled and offered you a hand. "Didn't I tell you that between the two of us, I'm the dangerous predator?"
