"Does this kind of stuff, really turn you on, Louis?" You whispered as you watched an Okapi stripped and gyrate to bass-heavy music.
"Not in the slightest. She's not my type either-- this is for the lions." He puffed out a cigarette. "It's honestly embarrassing to be here with you--"
"Sorry..." You looked down, hating to be a burden. Louis pulled you into his lap.
"You always take things the wrong way. I'm embarrassed for myself for you to see me here, in all this debauchery." He kissed at your neck. "But I can't bring myself to leave you at that school when there's a killer so close to you. What if they'd smelled you and were going to eliminate you next? I couldn't bear it. None of your little squad could."
"They survived Tem..."
"And I miss him every day. Don't make me even more miserable."
"I could never purposefully do that." You admitted.
"And that's why you're on my lap in a black market strip club." He stood up with a tough face and carried you outside. Once you were on the balcony, he set you against the railing and lit another cigarette. "Are you cold? Or are you okay?"
"What was that about?" You asked, still regaining your footing.
"I didn't want to be there any longer. If I leave with you, they'll think it's to fuck. And they'll leave me alone."
"Fair enough." As you leaned against the railing, Louis looked out longingly across the city. "Do you miss school?"
"No. Not school. But I miss the innocence. The idea that carnivores and herbivores grow up to get along..." Suddenly the door opened and he pulled you behind him. It was the okapi from the stage.
"Huh... Who are you? What's an herbivore doing here!?"
"What's your problem? I can be out here with a girl if I want."
"There are two types of asshole customers that I've always had to deal with these last eight years here... carnivores who genuinely pity me and herbivores who come to ridicule me."
"As you can see," He brought you in front of him now. "I'm neither."
"I don't know who you are, but you'll get eaten alive if you stay in these parts. Go home! It must be way past your bedtime!!" And with a slam of the door, the okapi was gone.
"Where did she go, you think?" You asked, looking up at Louis. "She was so angry."
"To suck off a spectacled bear. She's done it every night for nine days. But we've been hearing that the male is getting out of control. He's going to do some illegal hunting."
"You mean... murder? Right?"
"Yeah," he shook his head. "Not hunting. Murder. Anyway, not on my turf. If you're going to be a beast, you're going to do it my way and while making me money." His face was steeled, looking more healthy since you began staying nightly. After all, he had a reason to serve more vegetables and vegetable protein replacements. "Now come on. Let's grab the boys and go to the scene of the crime."
"You want me to come?!" You asked, wide-eyed.
"It's safer than letting a little treat like you sit by yourself. Carnivores usually eat herbivores, but they'll cannibalize when they feel like it." He waved his gang on with him and the entire crew made its way to the male restrooms. Louis was right, the bear had the okapi by the neck. "All right, beasts. That's enough. We can't let you do whatever you want here. This strip club's my turf." The bear released the okapi and stared in disbelief. "Restrain him." He sauntered over to the herbivore. "You told me to go home, didn't you, miss? This is my home. Let's get along; from one herbivore to another."
