Jess had a fairly quick photography lesson, taking pictures of numerous things she found pretty. Manny watched on not too far from the girl, casually taking photos of her, finding her calm for once and he liked that.
However Jess soon caught on to the boy taking pictures of her, and when she glanced over she saw his soft smile as he looked down at the camera she felt her heartbreak slightly, tears forming in her eyes. She had read the note, knowing that if she didn't show up, they were going to be strangers again and she didn't want that. But Adam had also read the note, deciding he was going to teach the boy a lesson.
"Manny" The girl whisper-yelled surprising the dark-skinned boy.
"Yeh?" The boy whispered back, excitement surging through his voice, he missed his best friend more than anything.
"I can't meet you." Manny felt his chest tighten, she really had been fake to him.
"Adam knows about the note. You need to stay with Tobi, okay? He wants to hurt you." The girl's voice came out soft as she glanced around every now and then, and Manny didn't know what to say, he was too shocked with the fact that his plan had fucked up.
"Manny, he will hurt you if you don't stay with Tobi, please just stay with him, you don't know what Adam's capable of." Jess' voice faded away towards the end of her sentence, looking towards the ground, not making eye contact with the boy.
"What has he done to you?" Manny had seen this side of Jess, the vulnerable side. And he found out most of her secrets through it. Instead of answering she just replied, "Just be careful Manny"
Grabbing her camera and making her way back to their photography class, Jess knew that if she had to, she wouldn't speak to Manny again if it meant keeping him away from danger.
Manny was confused but he knew what he needed to do, stay with Tobi, so that's where he went as soon as the bell sounded.
Manny explained the situation to his brother, mentioning the fact that he had an idea of what the man was doing to his best friend. That he was scared for her. Tobi felt hurt when his younger brother spilled his feelings to him because he knew of the abuse Jess was receiving. Just this morning he had a message from an unknown person, images attached showing Jess on numerous occasions beaten.
He also had images of Manny being places on his own, but the text was what put everything together. She's doing this for Manny. For you. I won't stop doing this because of what you did. adam.
Tobi and Adam went way back, they were in opposing gangs, they hated each other. Adam would do anything to hurt Tobi, ever since he humiliated him. Exposing his multiple personality disorder, how he beat on his own family and then continued to blame his other personalities. So when Adam saw the way Tobi eyed the small girl when no one was watching, how he watched her with such admiration he took advantage of it.
