chapter fourteen

Jess groaned as she stamped on her phone. "Woah , why are you doing that?!" Manny shouted as the girl picked up the now destroyed phone before slamming it into the wall , making sure it was completely destroyed and she threw it into the bin. "He'll find me if it still works" She mumbled , her smile being crooked as she leaned her head to the side. "How are you feeling anyway?" the girl questioned as she sat on the kitchen counter next to the boy. Manny sipped his tea , smiling small at the girl , "I feel way better now" He mumbled dragging the girl off the counter and in between his legs , his arms wrapping around her shoulders , hugging the girl tightly. Jess groaned but hugged back , the contact was not normal for the girl. The two pulled away , Manny sighing as he grabbed the girls hands in his own.

"I won't let him hurt you" He mumbled , looking the girl into her eyes. Jess sighed replying "you can't avoid the inevitable Manny". Manny shook his head as the girl walked away from him to the other side of the kitchen , leaning on one of the counters. The boy dropped from his own counter , walking over to the girl , "I will not let him hurt you" He voiced firmly grabbing the girl by her waist. Jess just stared at the boy , a frown etched onto her face , "It's getting late , and we have school tomorrow"

Manny groaned as the girl went to walk out of the kitchen , his hands reaching for her waist once more , pulling her back into his chest. "But i wanna cuddle and watch movies with you" Jess' face softened as she looked at his face , a puppy dog look being all she saw. "Well if you get me a hot chocolate then we might bunk off" Manny ran to the kettle as the girl spoke her words , switching it on , Jess giggling as he rushed to put water in it. Even though her father was in London , she was still happy , well whatever happiness could be right now. The first time since being a child , she was happy. Because of the boy that was rushing around , trying to find a bag of sugar so the two could bunk off the next day.

Jess jumped back onto the counter she was originally sat on smiling stupidly at the boy who stopped in front of her. "What?why are you smiling?" Manny asked intrigued with the blonde girl. "It's just - you've made me think differently about things  , made me feel happiness , which i haven't felt in a long time - you've made me realise i'm supposed to be at least a little happy and i'm glad you decided to waltz into my life and for your brother to be mad at me because if he did  want me to be friends with you , i would've walked away from you because i like being disrespectful , i'm just grateful you are here right now , thank you" her voice gradually became a whisper , tears falling from her eyes. "Hey , hey? why are you crying" Manny's eyebrows creased in confusion as he hugged her waist from where she was sat on the counter. "I'm just being silly" The girl whispered with a little laugh. Manny sighed as he stared at the girl , not content with the answer , "If it's about your dad , if you're thinking of the outcomes , i can promise you i can have him gone by tomorrow" He spoke but the girl pushed him away from her. They were in silence just staring at one another for a minute before jess mumbled "I'll be in your room , i expect a hot chocolate with marshmallows" The girl then continued to walk out of the room. "Marshmallow? Do we even have them?" "You best do , or we aren't going to watch movies or cuddle!" Tobi chuckled from his room , hearing the whole conversation , this girl was making him go crazy , he felt as though he needed to make her happy.

Jess placed her head on Manny's chest as the two watched Lilo and Stitch , Jess' hot chocolate being drank and placed to the side by Manny as he ate the marshmallows. "You know , i cold really have a kebab right now" Jess giggled at the boy's comment as he laced their fingers together. "Well come on then let's go get one" Jess jumped up off the bed getting her shoes while Manny just watched her. "What about your dad" Jess froze not looking at the boy , who now stood from the bed making his way over to the frozen girl. "He's not my dad" The girl grumbled , putting her shoes on her feet. "Jess-""no Manny , he just want me to be dead , he wants to fucking murder me himself! I can't do anything without being reminded of him , he fucking scarred my body , i don't want to live in fear anymore!" The girls fists met Manny's chest , the boy allowing her to get her anger out , her hits not holding much force in them. Manny tried holding the girl but she backed away , rushing out of his bedroom door. "Jess , where are you going?" He yelled after the girl as she ran down the stairs , tripping every so often. "Jess..." Manny yelled again , making his way down the stairs himself as she got to the front door. The yells got the attention of the sidemen , so as the girl opened the front door , tobi had already been there , "Jess , what are you doing" The boy huffed out but she shook her head moving outside. The girl continued to walk down the long driveway. "Tobi ,her dad's out there , you need to get her back in" Manny made tobi move out the door , going after the girl. "Jess , come back in , we can talk about this" This made Jess even more angry , the girl swinging around pushing the older boy back. "You've never cared , all you've ever wanted was for me to leave Manny alone , so what's changed?" Nothing but silence came as the girl spoke. "Exactly. Fuck. You. Tobi" The girl emitted a growl before walking away only for a car to pull up in front of her.

Two men jumped out of the first car , more cars pulling up. "hello sweetheart" The Scotsman said , grinning as the girl stumbled away from him. The girl backed up more , grabbing at her waistband , the metal feeling making her cringe. "What the fuck do you want" Jess spat at the elder , the man chuckling "Why so hostile Jessica? Didn't you miss your old man?" As he spoke , everything clicked in Tobi's head , causing him to pull his gun out , pointing it at the two men , standing in front of the girl. "Get behind me jess" Tobi spoke but Jess shook her head mumbling "I can deal with him on my own""is that why you ran from me" Jess glared at her father , the memories flooding through her mind. "Shut up" She grumbled. "Jess-" Tobi tried but the girl cut him off "I'm fine Tobi , i can handle it" Steven , Jess' father , raised his eyebrows at the other man , Jason , the girls uncle , who she remembers quite vividly as well , He always helped her father.  "So this is the infamous sidemen ,i've raised you well , sticking to the streets , oh and that must be the beautiful Lucy" Harry moved in front of his girlfriend , shielding her from the elders eye sight. "I wish mum would've fought back and killed you" Jess sneered , earning her a cold glare. "Yeh? and look where that got her , in a fucking grave , so i think you should watch your mouth" The man got closer to the small girl , causing her to stumble back , a fearful look in her eyes. "Sorry" she simply spoke causing Tobi to furrow his eyebrows , pulling the girl behind him. "Listen , coming here was a mistake , either leave or imma have to force you" Tobi spoke , his voice deepening. Steven laughed at the boy in front of him. "Tobi brown , oh how you've grown" Tobi felt himself become more confused , his hands gripping onto the gun tighter. "How do you know me?" The older man let out an evil laugh , "Oh tobi , you don't remember me , i'm surprised to see Manny alive after what me and my people did. Oh sweet , fearful Tobi , i'm the one who helped , i was the one who helped kill your whole family!"

Bang. A gunshot rang out.
