chapter eighteen

Manny had been depressed years prior from meeting Jess , so when Jess decided to be friends with the boy after everything that happened , he felt himself become happier . He still had his bad days but Jess made him happy. When he jumped off that bridge with the girl - he wasn't in his right mindset. He had only just started to come off his anti depressants , leaving him to be extremely sad. But when he saw the girls blue eyes in the water , looking so lifeless he realised how he wasn't just killing himself but his best friend , and that would haunt him in the after life , so he dragged her body to the surface , the two out of breath , spluttering water as people crowded around them.

 It was now a week after the incident , the two didn't speak on it. Tobi had woken up , he was weak but still alive. Jess hadn't spoken to the other boy either , finding it rather awkward as she had spilled her darkest secrets to the boy when he was unconscious. The group had also started to go back to school , seeing as some of the group were doing their GCSE's.

Manny slammed his locker , seeing Jess walk in. "Wassup pretty" he mumbled hugging the girl. Jess groaned hugging back "hello" She whispered , yawning after. If there wasn't attention dragged on the girl before , it definitely was now , everyone in London maybe even the uk knew about what had happened and the newly cut scar on jess' cheek only confirmed the story. As Manny and Jess were walking to meet the rest of the sidemen , people stared and a boy from their year commented "who gave that to you?Your dad?"

Jess stopped , turning to the boy who smirked , "The fuck did you say? oh , you're brave" She chuckled at the end as Tobi appeared at her side , the two brother stepping in front of the girl , sizing the boy up. "Boys , come on" Jess spoke , rolling her eyes at their over protectiveness.  The brothers trotted behind the girl , glaring at anyone who glanced towards the small girl. The girl stopped abruptly , causing the two boys to walk into her.

 "You know i'm okay , i'm not a diamond , i'm still Jess" She spoke , turning to the two boys. Manny sighed shaking his head at the girl "you've shown me the real you , why can't you just be the real you around everyone? You need us Jess and that's okay""Because that girl doesn't belong here , not in the streets" Jess spoke softly , but Many wouldn't take it , kissing his teeth as he walked away from the two. "Manny!come-"The girl stopped mid-way through her sentence knowing the boy wouldn't come back.

Tobi's presence was closer to Jess , his chest almost touching her back as he spoke "I prefer the real you too," The girl furrowed her eyebrows , turning to the boy mumbling "What do you mean" "That day you opened up to me , remember just before you and my brother jumped off the bridge" Tobi smirked , starting to walk away. "Tobi , how the fuck do you know about that" The girl asked ,grabbing the boy by his arm. She was angry , her and Manny agreed not to speak about it ever again. Tobi pulled his arm away from the girl saying "I'm Tobi Brown , Jess. I thought you already did your homework?" The boy smirked at the small girl. Jess groaned to herself , pushing the boy slightly. At least he heard her when she said he was always snarky. "you , Tobi Brown are an open book , i've just been lacking in my reading" She smirked back at the boy , walking past him , their shoulders connecting. Tobi glanced the girls figure up and down as she walked away , chuckling to himself. He heard everything the girl said when he was unconscious , he heard her pour her heart out to the boy , so he now felt the need to protect the younger girl. But he felt so much more for the girl , that's why he turned from the girls distant figure and began to walk to find Josh.

Tobi found his best friend outside of the school , smoking what seemed to be a blunt. "Josh" Tobi spoke , grabbing the others attention from watching Vik and Ethan talk to one of the science teachers. "Oh , wassup tobes" Josh spoke , his deep voice being scratchy. "I wanna talk to you about something" The boy spoke , leaning on the wall next to Josh , becoming nervous. "Okay bro , go ahead" Josh mumbled , passing the smaller boy the blunt. Tobi took a few drags before giving it back "I think i like Jess" The words surprised Josh. The two never spoke about their feelings to each other after the Freya incident. "jesus fuck Tobi! Are you sure?" Josh questioned , if he expressed his feelings to the girl , she will become even more unsafe. "I've never felt this way before Josh and i'm scared" The boy mumbled finishing the blunt. Josh sighed hugging the boy. "I know Tobes , but just go with your gut" He spoke with authority , he knew how broken the boy was , he knew everything about Tobi. They were like brothers , they were all each other had in the end.

It was weird when the two boys walked into their p.e lesson and saw a different year group in the sports hall. So when upon asking about it they received "Two girls refused to go outside" Tobi and Josh were not surprised when they found out the girls were Lucy and Jess. "Lucifer ,why are you being a bitch" Simon spoke as he walked into the sports hall , his p.e. attire making him look manly. "well one , it was cold and 2 Jess threw my jumper in the sink since she didn't have one - and they weren't allowing her to wear her coat , so don't even mention that" Lucy finished pointing to the girl who seemed to be shaking , her hands trying to cover the scar on her arm. Tobi sighed , reminiscing his previous conversation with Josh , before walking over to the girl , taking his own jumper off. He sat next to the girl on the bench , catching the girls attention. 

"Hey," She muttered , looking at the boy. Tobi reached his hand out , giving the girl his hoodie causing the girl to smile smally at the gesture. "Thanks" She mumbled , putting it on her shaking figure. "Why you acting up?" Tobi asked as the rest of the two classes began to get basket balls. "I didn't want to go outside" The girl answered bluntly. #"You can speak to me , ya'know?" Tobi mumbled , his hand reaching for the girls  , their fingers lacing together. Josh watched as the girl broke down in Tobi's arms , tobi holding her close to him as she cried. "I'm just scared of going outside , i know it sounds stupid , but i can just imagine him being there , waiting" She cried into the boys chest as he pulled her onto his lap , hugging her tightly. "He's not coming back , neither is jason or Adam" He whispered to her , the girl pulling her head back , looking Tobi in his eyes. "I killed him , tobi , i killed Jason" She whispered to him , the pain in her eyes being prominent. Tobi pulled her back to his chest "God im so sorry- im so sorry that you had to go through that" He mumbled into the girls hair , holding the girl tightly. "Come on , let's go play some basketball to get your mind off everything" Tobi mumbled pulling away from the hug , moving her hair from her face and kissed her forehead lightly , his thumb wiping the girls tear away from the girls cheek. Tobi smiled , getting up , placing the girl down on the floor.

"He likes her , he told me earlier" Josh spoke to the siblings who stood in front of him. "Well he's in luck , Jess likes him back , she told me when i bumped into her at the house" Simon spoke , throwing a ball at Lucy which hit her in the back of her head. "Ow you bitch"
