After stretching, the boys divide themselves into two teams to play a practice match with the two twins on opposing teams. It is Atsumu's team to serve first and of course, he is first to serve.
A weird feeling of excitement and nervousness builds in him when he is thrown the blue and yellow ball. Of course he had his team who cheered him on as well as his fangirls but there was a specific someone who was absolutely different from them all. He promised her a sight that would surely blow her away and he wanted to keep it. Taking a deep breath, he throws the ball into the air. Within a second, the ball is all of a sudden on the floor on the other side of the court... A service ace.
"YES!" Atsumu cheers for himself as his fan girls cheer for him as well.
Your eyes widen at the speed and quickness, but his form was what made you most stunned. It surely was a breathtaking view, not because he was beautiful, but the way he was able to instruct his body into the perfect form was beautiful.
Feeling a push from Mira, you finally let out a breath.
"How was it? Isn't he cool?" she chuckles.
As your eyes are still on an ecstatic Atsumu, you slowly drop your gaze onto the floor.
Flashback:
"Truly, a perfect serve. Your dad must've taught you a secret method. How do you do it, L/n-san?" an interviewer asked.
Uncomfortably, you shifted from your position as you stared at your teammates who looked like they were about to leave you behind.
"I-I'm sorry. I have to go!" you tried to explain but immediately got cut off.
"I will take you home, L/n-san; your dad wanted you to be interviewed. So, I already told your coach ahead of time that they can leave," your dad's manager explained to you.
"Huh?"
Hopelessly, you stared at the backs of your teammates leaving you behind.
'Wait. Don't leave.'
Present:
"F/n-chan... F/n-chan... L/n F/n!" Mira breaks your line of thoughts.
"Huh? Sorry," you apologize and turn your gaze back onto the court.
After cheering, Atsumu excitedly turns to look at your reaction to see your eyes in a daze. This causes him to frown and when he serves again, the ball miserably lands outside of the line.
"Nice home run!" Osamu yells on the other side of the court which causes Atsumu to shout back.
"Shut yer trap!!"
While they were playing, you intensely analyze every move from everyone and notice how good of a setter Atsumu actually was; it gave you a nostalgic feeling.
"Inarizaki's volleyball team isn't half bad," you whisper to yourself but Mira hears it.
"See, I told you didn't I? Isn't it fun to watch? They are so good. They went to nationals last year."
"That's not really shocking," you comment as Mira looks at you in confusion.
"I thought you didn't like volleyball or knew anything about it but it seems like you are really into it," she points out which causes you to regain your composure.
"Well, I'm not stupid; you could just tell they have extremly powerful players," is all you say until a voice yelles.
"WATCH OUT!!"
Turning your gaze up, you see a ball about to hit Mira's face and your instincts take over. Instantly, you stand from your seat and catch the ball before it could leave a nice bruise on Mira's cheek.
Although it would look like a normal catch to any normal person, that 'normal' catch was anything beyond normal. A catch that quick and perfectly would have taken practice to do, unless it was a complete fluke. In addition, the stance you held was one that many volleyball players would be familiar with.
"F-F/N-chan..." Atsumu calls out, "do you play volleyball?"
You suddenly start to sweat but try your best to keep your composure.
"F/N-chan... You saved my life!!!" Mira all of a sudden cries and hugs you as you just look away from the stares.
"You wouldn't have died," you calmly reply then sit back down.
"I-I'm sorry for almost hitting you!" a boy with white hair bows towards you both as Mira shakes her head telling the boy, Ginjima, it was fine. The boys still stare in astonishment but then awkwardly return to practice when their coach yells at them.
While they are on their break, their coach suddenly appears in front of you and Mira.
"What is your name?" he asks you.
You frown but decide it would be polite to answer.
"L/N F/N."
"Is your dad by chance L/N Hoshi?" he asks you as your eyes widen.
You had been trying to avoid something like this from happening since the beginning of the school year; that's why you moved from Tokyo to Hyogo prefecture. Before you could deny it someone comes up to you two, a girl named Kaze Ume. This was the last person you wanted to see.
"Coach, do you... F/N-chan, what are you doing here?"
A slight irk mark appears on your temple when she uses your first name.
'Why does everyone think it's okay to just casually call me by my first name?'
"Coach, are you trying to get F/N-chan on the girl's team as well? I've been trying to since I first heard she transferred here!!" Kaze explains and smiles when she sees you.
"Girl's team? F/N-chan... you play volleyball?" Atsumu and the other players suddenly appear.
'Oh no.'
Before you can speak, more people start to talk.
"Yeah. She was the best player in middle school. She even brought her team to nationals and got into the top 3!" Kaze explains.
"Her dad is also a professional volleyball player, L/N Hoshi," Coach Kurosu includes.
"No wonder you looked so familiar. I saw one of your matches back in middle school when you went against my school," Suna comments and now everyone is talking about you.
You feel yourself getting flustered and sweaty. You didn't like where this was going at all; so you grab your bag from the bleachers and stand up.
"I'm sorry; I have to go!" is all you say before rushing out of the gym.
"Wait, F/N-chan!!" Atsumu calls out, but you have already disappeared.
Once you get home, you shut the door and pant with sweat all over your face. You ran all the way from school to home.
"Why? Why did the secret have to come out? I don't want to play volleyball. I don't want to be known... I want to just live a peaceful life," you harshly whisper and slide down to the floor leaning against the door as you drop your head into your knees.
"Volleyball ruined my life; why would I want to do anything related to it?"
