"Tr-training camp?!" you exclaim as your coach and the boy's coach announces to both teams.
"Yeah! It's going to be so much fun, F/N-chan!" Atsumu cheers while you just frown.
You look down at the ground as your whole body suddenly starts to shake.
"Training camp isn't supposed to be fun, Tsumu. It's where you get tried and train," Osamu bluntly states which makes the two start to argue.
Everyone then starts to chatter about the 3 day training camp in Miyagi as you just stand silently. Kita notices this and is about to ask you if something's wrong when you speak first.
"I-I can't make it," You blurt as everyone stares at you in shock.
"Why can't you make it?" Your coach asks you.
"M-my sister needs me to watch over her. It's only her and I home alone so there's no one to take care of her for those three days. I can't leave her," You calmly and determinedly say to him.
"F/N-chan, Grandma can watch her," Kita says while you just shake your head.
"I can't do that," You say as he just puts a hand on your shoulder.
"Trust me... It'll be fine."
"The decision is up to you, F/N but you are a necessity to our team and we need you at the training camp. I will need your decision by Wednesday since we leave on Thursday night," Coach says as you just nod, "You guys are dismissed."
"F/N-chan, is there really no one to watch your sister? Not even a relative?" Mira, who is now the girl's volleyball manager, asks you.
"It's not that there's no one to watch her. I just made a promise to my dad that I would take good care of her if we wanted to move."
"Well, it'd be lonely if you didn't go."
"Why? Everyone will be there and the twins will be arguing non stop. You're friends with everyone on both teams now," You say as you both finish changing.
"Well... I don't know how to put it in words... You kind of bring the best out of people when you are at practice for both teams. That one time you didn't go to practice because Rina was sick, everyone was kind of quiet and their plays weren't as good."
You frown, "It probably was an off day for them."
"F/N-chan! Can I walk with ya today?" Atsumu suddenly appears.
"I'm walking with Shin-chan already. You should just go straight home," You say to him as he frowns.
Ever since Atsumu heard you calling Kita by his first name... a nickname to be precise, he didn't enjoy it. It wasn't like you two were super close... just neighbors. Yet, it was so easy for you to call Kita by his first name and it took you awhile to call him by his given name. It had already been a month that you have been getting closer to everyone on the volleyball team so he just had to shrug off the idea of you calling almost everyone by their first names so easily now. For some reason, everyone wanted you to call them by their first names knowing how you had some difficulty making friends.
"I don't care! I want to go see Rina-chan!" Atsumu puts an arm around you as you sigh.
You two walk towards the entrance where Kita is usually waiting for you.
"Oh, you're going to walk with us today, Atsumu?" He asks.
"Yes! I want to see Rina-chan!"
"Well, you should go home quickly. You need to take a shower and rest," Kita says with his usual face as Atsumu just frowns.
'It's annoying how you are saying that because you actually care for me and not because you want alone time with F/N!' Atsumu thinks to himself.
"It's alright! Samu takes long showers," Atsumu makes an excuse as you three just walk to pick up Rina from volleyball practice as well.
"How's Rina been doing in practice? Is she getting better at receiving?" Atsumu asks you.
You nod, "Yeah she has but she likes to focus more on setting and spiking even though she should master receiving first. She's getting too excited for the flashy moves."
"I wonder why coaches chose to have the camp in Miyagi," Atsumu questions.
"Maybe for practice matches against teams there," Kita suggests.
"Really? I thought it'd be because they'd make us run in the mountains since it's in the country," You say.
"Didn't you used to live in Miyagi, F/N-chan?" Kita asks.
"Yeah I did. I was actually born there but it's been two years since I've been there."
"Did you know any good players?" Atsumu asks.
You think to yourself, "I knew two very good setters and one really good wing spiker."
"Their names?"
"Oikawa Tooru, Kageyama Tobio, and Ushijima Wakatoshi."
"Doesn't Ushijima-san always make it to nationals?" Atsumu asks.
"Yeah, he does," you remember as you put on a lopsided smile, "As much as I like him... I'm kind of biased... So I hope a different team makes it to nationals."
"That's mean, F/N-chan," Kita bluntly responds as you put on a small pout.
"I just want my other friends to make it to nationals," you whisper as you three continue to walk.
-
"Well, I'll be going with my bestest and cutest friend!" Atsumu cries and hugs you as you frown.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Atsumu," you reply back and pat his back. Since the time you both had expressed your feelings to each other, your friendship had escalated. You guys would now hang out with each other everyday during lunch, practice, after school, etc. You guys were now best friends as well as best friends with the other volleyball players. However, the person you trusted/felt most comfortable with was him and Mira, of course. Once Atsumu leaves, Kita knocks on your door.
"Yes, Shin-chan?"
"I asked Grandma... She can watch Rina-chan. You don't have to worry," He suddenly says as you turn to avoid looking at him.
"It's not that I don't trust her... It's just that...." you hesitate. Besides Mira and Atsumu, Kita also became a very good friend of yours but you hadn't told him about your family issues before.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, F/N-chan. I just want you to know that Rina will understand and there won't be anything to worry about. Everyone wants you to be at the camp... Like Atsumu said, 'It'll be fun.'" You frown, not because you didn't agree... You frowned because he was right. It did sound very fun but it would be selfish of you to leave you sister.
"I'll have to think about it and ask Rina," you just sigh. Kita takes a step closer to you then holds both of your shoulders which causes you to look at him in the eyes. He brings his face closer to yours until you both feel each other's breaths.
"Don't think too much about it. Just do what feels right," is all he says then steps back and lets go of your shoulders.
"Good night, F/n-chan. I'll see you tomorrow in the morning," Kita says then walks away leaving you stunned. You bring your hands to your cheeks.
"W-what was that?"
