There was gold in front of my eyes. It was shining so bright that I couldn't see anything but the golden shade of the sunlight that was glittering in the curly hair of that cute boy. I smiled and called. "Jack..."

He had dedicated me his sweet smile, before saying in a weird voice that didn't suit him. "Wake up, Emma. You have to go to school."

I groaned unsatisfiedly before opening my eyes. As soon as my eyes fluttered open, I saw my mum standing next to my bed with a confused frown on her pretty face.

I felt my cheeks turning into dark shade of red when I had realised that it was her voice and I was only dreaming of Jack.

She asked curiously. "Who's Jack, sweetheart?" She was smiling lightly, because since Cay wasn't there anymore, she wasn't able to smile more. Her soul was locked up inside her and I felt so sorry for her.

I blushed even harder when I understood that I had said his name out loud. I said. "Jack is my boyfriend."

I looked up to see her reaction and was shocked with her surprised, yet happy smile that was playing on her lips.

"Oh, that's amazing, Emma! I didn't know you were seeing someone." She pointed out like she was disappointed in me.

I smiled nervously. "We got together on Monday." I saw the tears of happiness welling her blue eyes that me and Cay inherited from her. She pulled me into her heartwarming hug and whispered.

"That's great, little one. How is he?" She asked, curious.

I felt my lips curling into a big smile only by the thought of my perfect boyfriend. "He's amazing, mom. Very funny, so kind and brutally honest. He's very laidback, too and just...gorgeous." I whispered the last part.

My mom carressed my cheek while saying. "I'm so happy for you. Is he that boy we talked about last week?" Her eyes were full of anticipation and she suddenly looked so alive, way more than she ever did in the past two months.

I nodded with a smile. "Yes, it's him. He saved me, mom. He saved me from going completely off the rails. I realized thanks to him that I have to carry on living. He teaches me how to skateboard and we will be running together."

My mom's eyes welled up with tears again. She said. "I'm so happy that you have someone like him. But why do you want to run? You were never into sports." She pointed out.

That was when I took a deep breath before announcing. "I want to join the athletics club Cay used to be in. I want to win that race for him, to complete his wishes. I even started learning how to play the guitar. I need it. I owe it to him." I looked her directly in the eyes, hoping she would understand.

And she did. She pulled me close and said. "That's so nice of you, Shemma. But don't forget about your own dreams. You know, your brother would be so proud of you, just as me and your dad."

I hugged her back and said. "I love you, mom." She laughed. "I love you too. But I'm pretty sure that you love Jack way more."

I laughed. "That's a different type of love, mom." She laughed and then my phone buzzed.

Good morning, princess. After school we're going for a run, wear some comfy clothes and shoes ;)

I laughed at his craziness and typed back. Good morning, Jacky. I'm prepared to make a fool of myself when you see me running :D

My mum noticed my smile and said happily. "I like to see you like this. So hopeful and happy. This boy has to be special. He makes you smile. I'd like to see him in person."

I shot her a hesitant glare. "Mom, we're together just a while. I don't want to scare him off. But I can show you a picture."

She looked at my phone, getting pretty excited. I showed her Jack's photo and she just let out a surprised "Wow."
