"About time you made it, girl. Thought I was gonna have to go searching for you." Reese says as he opens up the door to his huge apartment. I walked through the threshold , the warm sun washing over my face through the large sliding door to my right. I stopped, as he had a lovely carpet in front of me, it looked antique. I kicked my slides off and then stepped further in, taking a deep breath of the cinnamon scented candles burning in the air. He came behind me and rubbed my shoulders for a bit, then slid my jacket off of my body and took it into the back of the apartment. I sat down on his beige suede sofa and looked around at the ornate living area, strung with photos of him and what I can only assume are family members. I looked at the table in front of me, a picture of him when he was about 16 or 17. He was smiling with someone else, they're wearing a purple football jersey, Reese holding the football. The other boy beside him, about the same age, darker and with his hair brushed into a high puff.
"That's me and Baltimore when we were 16. We played football in high school and that's the day we won the championship." Reese's voice shattered the silence, interrupting my thoughts on what I was going to do to help Avery.
"I knew this was you, you still have the same shy ass smile." I said as I placed it back down onto the table, gently because he had a glass table like I did.
"Yeah my mom was heavily insistent on us taking it."
"Wow, so you guys knew each other for that long?" I asked trying to feed Reese into talking about Baltimore... more.
"Yeah, since 3rd grade. His mom and my mom worked together. We been cool ever since. We do everything together, we used to be the dynamic duo in high school. He always had my back, always on go for as far as I can remember." he said smiling to himself and rubbing his hands together as he looked over at the picture.
"You'll probably see him tonight at the spoken word." he leans back into the couch and looks over at me.
"I thought we were tired?" I move closer to him, changing the subject. I throw my leg over his and he puts his arm around me.
"Waiting and worrying about you has me up and ready for the day." we laugh and he grabs the remote off of the armrest beside him.
----

"Are you hungry? I can reheat these stuffed peppers I made last night." he says from the kitchen.
"That sounds really good right now, actually. You have shredded cheese ?" I turn to face him from the couch and he's behind the island in the kitchen, searching the fridge.
"I sure do." he responds while taking a baking pan out wrapped with foil and a bag of shredded cheese out, then holding it up for me to see.

I turn back to watch "Good Girls" on Netflix, his phone vibrates and lights up on the table in front of me.
I turn quickly to see if he's not paying attention, he isn't . So I quickly dip down to look at the phone.

A text from Baltimore reading , "So bro, remember shawty from last night that ain't come to my birthday dinner?"

I grabbed my phone and took a picture of the text, then quickly sat back on the couch. Reese still wasn't paying attention, but as my adrenaline peaked, he came around the couch with a large plate, 4 stuffed peppers sitting atop .
"Here you go m'lady." he says bowing playfully as he handed me the plate.
"Thanks." I look up and smile. It's the little things that I appreciate from Reese. The few days that I did know him, he's been checking up, stopping by just to spend time with me, giving me massages out of nowhere, reading with me, just eager to know every little thing about Kellandra. I feel like we're off to a good start. It's simple, nothing is forced.
----
A few minutes into "Scarface", Reese's phone rings.
"You can get that." I say getting off of him and looking at him reassuringly.
"Ahhh, thanks." he says getting off the sofa , grabbing his phone and heading behind me.

He answered and then sat at the kitchen island.
"Yoooooo!" a male voice says.
"Yeah wassup B, I'm with my shorty right now so.." Reese says as he looks over at me and smiles.
I'm his shorty .
"Ahh okay. Well I won't keep ya for long. But remember shawty that ain't come to the dinner? I just seen her earlier this morning, like 3:30. She swung by and apologized or whatever for missing the dinner. Then you wouldn't believe what this girl told me bro."
"Man is you gone say what?" Reese asked, slightly annoyed. Bitch I was annoyed too, would you just say it already?!

" She told me she got a man bro! Been together for years! I was really falling for her and you know I don't fall for no one ! She crying and pleading and I just wanted her ass to leave. I'm threatening to call the police on her crazy ass cause she was literally holding on to me like a lil girl on her father. In the mist of all that, her phone rings and she get to getting her shit like she in a hurry. I'm like "Where you going?!", she ignores me and just rushes out . An hour after, she texts me saying "We gotta talk."."

Baltimore finished and I picked up my drink and took a sip, then settled back into the sofa with my glass in hand, which was shaking from
anger. Listening to how trifling this bitch is, I wanted to get up and go right to that gym and beat her little skinny ass. She was hiding the man who took care of her no good ass when even her parents ain't want shit to do with her.

"Ahh man. What she say y'all gotta talk about bro?" Reese asked .

"She think she pregnant bro."

I choked on my mimosa.
