Avery's House

"I'm a mermaid."

I turned on my side in the birthing pool , a.k.a. the tub - wincing slightly as Avery dabbed at my forehead with a warm washcloth.

"Yes baby, you're a beautiful mermaid." Avery says softly.

"Okay Kelly ," my doula Avril walked into the bathroom with a stack of fresh towels. "I'm gonna check how dila-"

"FUCK!" I rocked back and forth as a contraction came about, gripping Avery's wrist for dear life.

"Breathe baby." Avery ran his hands through my hair, I looked up at him.

"I ain't know I was holding my breath." I looked back down at the pinkish water while I squirmed uncomfortably.

"She didn't mean it." I notice Avril mouthing to Avery.

"Can I have some ice or something?" I leaned back and Avery dabbed at my forehead some more. He looked at me sympathetically.

"I'm sorry." I say as Avery continued dabbing.

"Girl. No. You in labor." he kissed my forehead. "I'm gonna go get your ice."

I sunk into the pool.

"Oh dear god." I gripped the sides of the pool and clenched my jaw as another contraction came about but this one- it wasn't stopping. "Oh shit." I reached between my legs and grazed a head full of hair.

"K-k-" I looked at Avril who rushed to my side and dipped a gloved hand into the water, she grazed my vagina and then looked at me.

"It's time, Avery!" she called out to the open door.

"Kelly just take a big breath and pu-"

"Aggghhhhh!" I pushed with everything in me as Avril rubbed my back.

"Shit shit shit-" Avery ran in and quickly placed the cups of ice on the counter , then kicked off his slides and carefully stepped into the pool. "Hey, hey," he came behind me and swept some hair out my face. "Keep going you got this." he stares intently.

I pushed again and gasped as the head of one of the babies popped out, "Kelly one more time" Avery says.

"Avery-" I say while panting and heaving slightly.

"Yes baby-" he looks between me and the baby head sticking out of me.

"I wish I could take a nap right now." I laugh slightly before I push again and gasp again as the baby emerges out of me, a small foot brushing against my inner thigh.

"Good girl!" Avery kisses me quickly as Avril brings the baby out of the water carefully, Avery holding out a towel. "It's Kyree." she smiles and laughs tearfully as she hands Avery the scissors. "Now just wait until that turns white, okay?" Avril points at the cord stemming from Kyree's belly button.

I sat in the birthing pool panting as my contractions got stronger and stronger. Avery sat next to me holding Kyree and rocking him slowly.
"It's white!" he whispers loudly. Avril comes over and takes Kyree, Avery readies the scissor and carefully cuts his umbilical cord. Avril sits next to the tub, holding Kyree out to me so I can see him. His small eyes blink slowly as he smacks his lips.

"It's almost time to eat." Avril says and we smile as we look down at the baby.

"She's coming guys-" I roll onto my knees and thrust back as the pressure grows immense.

"I can see her head baby, you're almost there!" Avery says as he rubs my back.

"Ooooh-" I reach down and graze Azuri's head.

"Whewww!" I scream as I hold the edge of the tub.

I bared down as hard as I can and gasped as the remainder of her body slid out of me.

I roll onto my back and bring her out of the water carefully then lean back against the edge of the tub.

"You did so good Kelly." Avril smiles and squeezes my shoulders slightly. I look up at her and smile.

"I'm so tired." I whisper to Avery, he's holding Kyree in one arm, then put a towel over Azuri's who lay on my chest with his free hand.

"Tell mama they're here okay-" I whisper as my eyes get heavier and heavier.

"Kelly, stay with us please- wake up Kelly."

Avery's House

"Uh huh now can I get me some more of them greens?" I ask right before I take a sip of water , then hold my plate out. I look down at Kyree, then Azuri, who fell asleep with my breast in her mouth. I actually got this breastfeeding thing down pat surprisingly.

"Eat, sleep, repeat huh." Avery says softly as he picks her up then places her in the crib adjacent to the bed.

"Whew chile. I like her, she's quiet. But our boy over here-" I move Kyree to the center of my chest. "You loud like mommy." I say as I stroke his soft hair, he blinks slowly as he drifts off to sleep.

"Wow, I thought we was finna stay up and kick it but alright-" I say as I smile and kiss his forehead.

"Want me to take him? You need as much rest as possible." Avery holds his hands out and I place Kyree in them. He puts the him in the crib next to his sister.

"Drink some more water, can't be having you drift off like earlier" Avery holds the glass of water out to me, I take it and down it.

"Well I'm finna hit the sack before they wake up. Care to join me?" I rub the space next to me and Avery chuckles as he climbs into bed with me.

"You did so good today, I'm proud of you girl." He looks at me while squeezing my hand slightly, then looks at my ring.

"You said you Prada me? You said you J'adore my Dior?" I say and he laughs.

"By the time you wake up it'll be on it's way here." he nestles closer to me and within seconds, we're both snoring.
