Kellandra's eyes snap open as she lies in a hospital bed.

"Wh- wh-" I tried to speak but my mouth was dry and cottony. I slipped my hand from out of Avery's gentle grasp and looked around the hospital room, my heart was about to come out my chest. I spotted a pitcher of water and gestured frantically for Avery to pass me it as he watched, stunned.

I downed the water and it was as if life was returned to my sore, exhausted body.

"All good?" he held his hands up to his shoulders surrender-style, slightly lowering them as he reached for my hand again. I nodded and handed him the empty pitcher.

"The ba-" I held my belly, my eyes started to sting.

"Is fine." he looked at me reassuringly.

"Is he dead" I held my throat as I spoke with a
raspy voice, it pained me a little.

"No." he rested his hand on mine and I sighed, relieved.

"Okay." I fell back onto the pillow and stared at the nearly blinding light fixtures. I mean.. were they always this bright? Or did I have a concussion?

"Do I have a concussion?" I looked at him quizzically. "Yes." he pursed his lips and squeezed my hand a little.

The room grew silent.

"I came as soon as I heard." The door opened and Nelson came in, this time he was in a suit.

The door opened and a pretty black nurse stuck her head in.

"Great to see you're awake, Ms.Grey." she smiled humbly and acknowledged Avery as well. She donned a face mask that was pulled down to her chin.

"There's an officer here to speak to you." she continued. I looked at her, Avery places his hand on my shoulder. "I can tell them to come back later." he looked at me reassuringly.

"Let them in." I bit my lip, not sure if I was ready to be interrogated. But once I seen the face(s) of the officer(s), I knew I didn't want to be bothered.

Nelson stood up and looked towards the door.

"So we meet again." the latina officer who was assigned to the death of Brianna walked in, pulled down her mask and held her belt pridefully as she looked down at me, smiling. The black male officer walked in, also pulled down his mask and smiled sincerely while the latina wasn't looking. But Avery saw it and grimaced. I grabbed his arm and shot him a look. He got up and walked over to peer out the window.

"You know, it's like trouble seems to find you wherever you go." the latina officer inched closer to my bed, still smiling.

Nelson cleared his throat, causing everyone to look at him. "I'm Jared Nelson, I'm Miss Grey's lawyer."

"I know." the latina officer smiled sarcastically.

Nelson raised his eyebrow as he stared at the back of her head. I could tell this was going to be a little tense.

The male officer coughed slightly to break the tension and pulled out his notepad. "Miss Grey can we ask you a few questions about what happened?"

"Yeah, sure." I kept my eyes on the latina officer as I grabbed the remote for the bed and pressed the button to incline it. She stared, obviously annoyed, at the back of her partner's head.
