Bitch do I need a what?

She seen the look of confusion on my face and her cheeks flushed red, she cleared her throat.

"Oh- Did you not know?" she asked quietly with an awkward grin.

I shook my head, my eyes wide as they bounced around the room. I was lost for words. And what's even worse is my abdomen began to tingle right as it dawned on me that I was pregnant with Reese's baby.

"I'm going to uh- step out. I'll be back with those prescriptions." the nurse backed out of the room and shut the door quietly behind her, leaving Avery and I in a deathly silence.

"Kell-"

I looked up non-blinking at Avery who stared back cautiously.

"Kelly come back." he waved his hand in my face and I grabbed, squeezing it tightly as I began to cry. He pulled me into his chest, still holding my cold trembling hand.

"Shhh, it's going to be okay. That baby will be loved regardless, you don't need him." Avery said sternly, but still gentle as he held a crying, overwhelmed me in his arms and rocked me slowly.

"Okay so here's the prenatals, and a prescription for pain-" the nurse handed me a large pill bottle and a small prescription paper.

"Can I see it?" I interrupted.

"The baby?" she asked.

"Yes.. I wanna see my baby." I sniffles and straightened up confidently, Avery grabbed my shoulder and gave me a reassuring look.

"I'll go get the ultrasound machine." she smiled kindly and walked back out of the room.

"And there it is," the nurse pointed at the screen, at the small circle that in a few weeks, will start to look close to human.

"You're about 5 weeks... ish. Around that." the nurse stared intently at the embryo.

I looked fascinatingly, forgetting for just a moment that I was pregnant by a drug addict.

"I know it's a boy, I mean look at it!" Avery smiled brightly as he stared at the screen, pointing at everything but the embryo.

I laughed and laid my head back on to the bed, staring up at the light fixtures, then exhaled deeply.
The nurse began to wipe my stomach clean, and Avery came into my line of sight, hovering over me.

"You good?" he smiled and glared happily.

"Yeah." I relaxed and smiled back.

"Easy, now." Avery held his hands out as I sat down on the sofa.

"Avery I'm only like, 5 seconds pregnant." I laughed a bit and sighed.

"Yeah but the nurse said this is the most important trimester, and anything could happen. Let me go get some water so you can take your prenatal vitamins. Oh and I'm cooking tonight, your favorite eggplant parmesan." he hurried off into the kitchen, babbling away and I smiled to myself as I rested my hand on my stomach.

There was life growing inside of me, me. I- I just don't know. I mean, I'm grown. I'm educated, I'm sensible, I'm responsible.. I know I can do this. But the timing. I just found out I'm pregnant by a former drug addict who relapsed and is being shipped off to California for God knows how long...

"We came as soon as we could!"

I looked up to see Pearl and Taneya bustling into my apartment.

"Oh, God!" Pearl hugged me tightly and I gave in. She pulled me away and looked at me, moved my hair out of my face, inspected my arms. "What did he do to you?" she asked, seemingly about to cry.

"Pearl I'm fine, but Avery on the other hand-"

"Girls?" Avery stepped from out the bedroom, shirtless and with his arms open.

"Aww Ave..." Taneya walked up to him, a distressed look on her face and she reached for his bandaged arm and inspected it.

"I'm fine, nothing a few stitches can't fix." he patted her shoulder and looked at her reassuringly.

"Stitches!" Pearly grabbed my foot and rotated it as far as it would go as she looked at my stitches.

"I just stepped on a piece of a broken vase, I'm fine I promise." I smiled at Pearl and she gave me a half smile back, hugging me again.

"Wait, are those-" Taneya walked over towards the coffee table. "Prenatals?" Pearl finished Tee's sentence as she picked the large bottle up from off the table and looked up at me, shocked.

"It's his ... isn't it ?" Taneya sat next to me and placed her hand over mine.

"Yes." I looked down at my foot and pursed my lips, it felt like I was going to cry again.

"Aww honey." She pulled me into a hug and Pearl joined from behind. Then Avery came and hugged the three of us.

"I'm sure you already know how much love and support you're surrounded by. We all are here for you." Pearl sniffled and teared up happily as she placed her hand on my stomach.

"Always." Taneya squeezed my hand, I looked up and Avery nodded in agreement.

"Oh shit, the eggplant!" he scurried off back into the kitchen.
