The Last Dance.

Old Westbury, NY

I pulled up to a gated home, the gates slowly opening as I turned into the driveway.

Driving further up the pathway, stood Reese. He look horrible, clothes all baggy and hanging off him. His eyes were dull and dead looking. His hair was matted down and dirty.

I stared at him as the car rolled forward, he looked at me puzzled as the car crept closer and closer. Then I slammed the breaks, never taking my eyes off him as the car stopped a good foot from where he was standing.

I got out and stepped around the car, he held his arms out and smiled. My face twisted up as I slapped his arms away.

He looked away clearly embarrassed. Good. I ain't give a fuck.

"I'm gonna give you some time to warm up to being here. I know it's been a while since you seen me." I hear him say as I look around. We're surrounded my trees , the next house was probably a couple miles away. The hissing of the cicadas intensified and Reese gestured for me to continue up the path.

We stepped onto the porch of the huge house. I looked over at the stroller in the corner and my anxiety skyrocketed. I just wanted to get my babies home.

He took out a set of keys and unlocked the door,
tip toeing like an idiot while I cautiously walked in behind him. I smelled something sweet, like pie.

*squeak*

I looked down to see a stuffed toy on the ground, I kicked it out the way as I shuffled behind Reese.

"Oh my. Look who's here."

Draya sits on the couch holding Kyree and Azuri, bouncing gently and looking at me.

"Bitch give me my babi-" I stormed around the couch and Reese grabbed me, his dirty nails digging into my arm.

"You know better than to touch me." I snatched my arm away and raised my hand at him, he backed away and laughed.

"Bitch I'm not gone ask you again." I stepped closer to Draya. She looked between my babies and I, then slowly came forward.

"Reese, get the stroller." she says as she looks at him for a second, then at me. From behind me, Reese let out a deep sigh and I heard his footsteps retreat.

But it didn't sound like he was heading back for the porch..

I turned around to see Reese running towards me. I tried to grab my babies , but it was too late.

"Shhh. Just sleep for a while."

My vision doubled as my knees weakened. I clutched at my neck where he had stabbed me with a needle, as he cradled me in his arms while we sunk to the ground. He caressed my face as I fought to stay awake.

A young black man and a female are sitting at a table in a diner.

The young man scarfs down a BLT while the woman stabs at her caesar salad. The young man stops eating and stares at the woman, she looks up and smiles, the smile falters when she looks back down at her plate.
