For KayQueen19
~2 years later~
Bryce and Kay were at it again, having batting practice as a date-night. It's kind of become their thing. They'd have a batting practice date, bet on who'd pay for dinner, and then go get dinner.
Recently, they moved into their new home in Philadelphia, and the home had a batting cage in the backyard. With the Coronavirus causing nationwide lockdowns, they've been spending a lot of time back there to kill their boredom. Especially since the weather in Philadelphia has been pretty nice lately.
"Okay, babe," Bryce says from the pitching machine. "Ready?"
Kay swings the bat a little bit to get a good feel of it. "Born ready," she says.
Bryce starts the pitching machine, making it go about 60 mph. Kay ends up hitting every single one of them. She gives him a look. "Can you make this a little more complicated, Harper?" she asks him, teasingly.
Bryce laughs at her. "Are you sure?" he asks her. "Cuz this thing can go fast."
Kay shrugs. "Never stopped me before," she says, getting back into position. "Let's do it."
Bryce smiles at her, excited for what he has planned, which just so happened to have a certain black box in his pocket. "Okay, if you say so," he says, speeding the pitching machine to 70 mph.
Kay ends up only hitting 6 of the 10 pitches. "I didn't expect it to go that fast," she says.
Bryce shrugs at her. "You said you wanted it to go faster."
Kay gives him a look as she walks up to him. "Ha-ha, Harper." They meet in the middle for a sweet kiss. "It's your turn."
Bryce takes the bat from her and heads to the plate as Kay was setting the pitching machine back up. "Alright," she says when there was enough baseballs set into the machine. She looks at him standing at the plate. "You ready, Harper?"
Bryce gets into his stance, feeling his blood pressure start rising about what he had in store after his turn. "Bring it on," he says. With that being said, Kay starts the pitching machine at 95 mph. Bryce hits 7 out of the 10 pitches. "Man." He starts rolling his shoulders after hitting the last pitch. "I gotta work out more."
Kay laughs at him. "Looks like I'm gonna win this time."
Bryce gives her a playful dirty look as he continues stretching a little bit. "I let you win."
Kay rolls her eyes at him. "Yeah, keep telling yourself that." She grabs a few more baseballs. "Wanna go again?"
Bryce nods as he swings a couple times to get warmed up. "Start it up." Kay starts the pitching machine again, and Bryce hits 9 out of 10. He cheers as he hits the last pitch. "Let's go!!!" He throws his bat on the floor as he does a victory dance.
Kay laughs and rolls her eyes at his foolishness. She shakes her head at him. "Why are you like this, Bryce?" She laughs at him as he continues dancing.
Bryce finishes his victory dance and walks up to her. "As for my victory kiss, babe." He puckers his lips and starts leaning in.
Kay smiles at him. "Aww." She kisses her fingers and smacks his lips with it, making him jump and let out an 'ow'. "Let's clean this up, Harper."
Bryce laughs at her as they start picking up all the balls. They throw them into a bucket, Bryce making trick shots as they do so.
They finish cleaning up about 10 minutes later, and Bryce puts the pitching machine off to the side to make it look more organized. "You want to start dinner, babe?" he asks her.
Kay nods as she puts the bucket down next to the machine. "Yeah, sounds good," she replies.
They start walking towards the house from the batting cages, but Bryce remembers what he had to do. He taps her shoulder to get her attention. She turns around to look at him, which makes his breath hitch in his throat. "Can I tell you something?" he says.
Kay nods at him and starts rubbing his arm to calm him down a little bit. "What is it?" she asks him, concern etched in her voice.
Bryce takes a deep breath and puts his hand in his pocket. "Wow," he lets out another deep breath, "I had this whole speech planned out, but now, words aren't exactly my strongest suit." He lets out a nervous chuckle and takes another deep breath as she laughs with him.
"Kay, these past two years have been the greatest of my life. You love me for who I am, and you're always there for me. You make me smile, even in the worst times. Ever since I met you, I knew you were the one." He takes her hand in his. "You're not my soulmate because soulmates are people who have things in common. You're my twin flame. We burn together, and we'll go out together. I guess, what I'm trying to say is," he gets down on one knee, and Kay gasps quietly, "will you marry me?" He takes the box out of his pocket and opens it to reveal something that resembled more of a rock than a diamond.
Kay feels tears starting to brim her eyes as she nods. "Yes," she says, quietly. "Yes, of course."
Bryce has a big smile on his face. "Yes?" he confirms. She laughs at him and nods. He slides he ring on her finger. He gets back on his feet, and they meet in the middle for a passionate kiss. They pull away and rest their foreheads against each others. "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."
Kay sniffles a little bit. "Me neither," she says.
Bryce pulls her closer to hug her tightly. "I love you so much," he says.
Kay smiles more as she wraps her arms tighter around his neck. "I love you so much more."
