The bullet ripped through the fabric of the imposters jacket, grazing his waist and drawing blood, before Ashe slapped the horses hind flank harshly. The animal reared and bolted. The imposter, now back to his normal self, scrambled desperately for the reigns as the horse bucked and reared wildly trying to get him off. Ashe was swept of her feet seconds later. She huffed in confusion as she quickly got a hold of the leather saddle she now sat on while Vivi held the reigns. A hiss of pain left her mouth. Her gun was in her dominant right hand so she had to hold on with her injured left one.
"Karoo?!" Vivi gasped as well. The feathered creature was beaten and bloody, shaking under them, but he kept running wildly as Mister 2 finally freed himself from the stallion.
"Damn" Ashe hissed as she took aim and fired at the man following them "I can't believe the poor things can still move. Let alone carry the two of us"
"He's amazing!" Vivi agreed wistfully, a proud smile appeared on her face, but it quickly dropped when she saw where Karoo was headed "No, if you got straight then we'll be cornered on the stairway!"
Ashe reloaded quickly, left hand stinging whenever it moved, before she twisted her torso around to fire. Each bullet came close to the ballerina following them, who was quickly gaining distance, and she could see the annoyance that was stretching across his face. His yelling became louder as Ashes own mood began to sour and darken. He was fast, she'd give him that.
"Let me off here!" The princess cried "I'm going to fight him"
"No way!" Ashe barked back as she fired again, the sound echoing around them and ringing in their ears "You need to get to the army as fast as you can. No stopping!"
Karoo pushes forward with a loud quack and Ashe didn't register Vivis words or surprise and protest at her duck headed for the cliff until they were actually there. The woman let out a help of surprise as she gripped the saddle tightly. They were going straight up as the duck ran, his claws gripping the rock face with each step, and they were quickly approaching the top. Her grip tightened painfully as Karoo began to slow, claws not even touching the cliff anymore, before he spread his wings and began to flap them wildly. They hovered for a moment before he latched himself onto the edge of the cliff. Ashe could hear Mister 2 yelling from the bottom.
"Karoo that's amazing!" Vivi praised "You flew"
"Well done!" Ashe added.
"Surely Mister 2 wont be able to follow us at this point"
Viv was wrong and Ashe cursed as she watched as the drag queen began to sprint up the side of the mountain right behind them. Ashe shot at him again as Karoo finally pulled himself onto safer ground. The sounds of fight instantly surrounded them, bullets and clashing steel filing the warm air. An explosion ripped through the end of the street. Blood covered the sand while the building's were already crumbling away. It was chaos. Ashe placed her hand on Vivis shoulder and gave it a weak pat.
"Karoo?" Vivi hissed as her teeth ground together "Do you think you an make it through the battlefield? We'll never be able to find Koza in all this confusion so we'll look for Chaka instead. We need to reach the royal palace and make it before the rebel army reaches the centre of the city. We must!"
"I'm here!" Mister 2 cried as he landed behind them.
They were already off, Ashe firing back at him as the distance between them grew. Karoo continued to run, as determined as his princess, before a gunshot rang out like thunder. For a moment Ashe thought it was her own bullet but her chamber had been emptied before that so that was quickly dismissed. Karoo suddenly slowed. He took several steps forward but stumbled. Vivi cried out for him while Ashe cursed before the duck let out a sudden cry and sprinted forward. They raced through the mess of soldiers and rebels towards the palace at amazing speed with Mister 2 close behind them. He kept moving till finally he reached a clearing where he stumbled and finally fell to his injuries. The two girls were thrown from his back. Ashe cursed and hissed as her injured hand scraped against the stones on the ground. Blood dropped down her fingers.
