( Skypiea Arc )
"Well..." Ashe hummed, cigarette dangling from the corner of her mouth "this is...nice"
The town was a shabby mess. The wood of the old houses looked like it was rotting through while trash and empty alcohol bottles seemed to line the roads. Everything reeked of rum. The sound of off beat music, bloody brawls, and distant gun fire seemed to echo around the whole town while smoke rose from the chimneys to dim the light of the sun. Ashe watched silently as a man was promptly thrown through the window of what appeared to be a rundown bar.
"Let's just leave!" Usopp almost sobbed as he gripped her bicep tightly, shaking like a leaf in a hurricane. She only raised a dark brow.
"I think we'll fit right in." Zoro huffed as he eyed all the fighting that broke out in the streets freely as well as the weapons that nobody seemed bothered to hide.
"Looks like everyone here is a pirate or criminal" Robin hummed "we shouldn't find any marines but best stay on edge."
"Can never be to careful" Ashe agreed before she began to check through the equipment she had strapped to her belt and thighs "I think I'm gonna head out and have a look around"
"Mind if I join you?" The archeologist smiled. Her blue eyes clashed with the taller woman's red ones and Ashe couldn't help but smirk slightly. She was still wary of the former Baroque Works Vice President, and rightly so, so any chance to simply probe for information was a chance she ought to take. Especially with someone as secretive as Robin, who was coincidentally thinking the same thing about her. The black haired beauty had heard snippets of all the other Straw Hats pirates life but Ashes lips had remained sealed with every question being skilfully dodged and redirected. Great minds think alike it seemed.
"Ashe!" Chopper cried out as he latched onto her leg "Protect me! I don't wanna die in a place like this!"
"Then just stay in the ship" she hummed. The young woman carefully unwrapped his little arms from around her calf and ushered him over to Nami who was scowling down at the town with a scrunched up nose. Her brow was creased with thought.
"Don't think too hard" She teased the ginger "you'll get wrinkles. I can basically see the smoke coming out your ears"
"Hey!" Nami huffed but gave the older woman a weary smile as she glanced at the rowdy town "I'm just a little nervous. This town doesn't exactly seem safe"
"I'm sure it'll be fine" the white haired pirate shrugged even though she absolutely did not believe her own words before she turned to Robin "ready to go?"
"Of course. Lead the way Miss Deadlock"
The pair slipped away silently and made their way down the gangplank with long graceful strides as they both easily stayed in pace with each other. They dodged around groups of fighting men, hopped over disgusting puddles of mixed blood and alcohol, before they finally reached a part of the town that seemed like it was actually taken care of. It was much more busy with people loaded with shopping bags and supply carts. The air smelt more of perfumes and food, stalls and shop doors lining the streets.
"This is quite the change from the rest of the town" Robin pointed out as they stopped outside a small stall selling an array of silks and velvets. The black haired woman fiddled with a strip of white silk but Ashe scared the vendor away with a glare before he could come over and hassle them.
