( Alabasta Arc )
They didn't have a moment to rest before the marines were on them again and Ashe was running around the deck like wild, jumping back and forward ,as she tried to block as many cannonballs and spears as she could. Thankfully there seemed to be only three ships following behind them. But the real problem was they were slowing down ,loosing momentum and letting the Marines gain in them, as water seeped in through the holes on the bottom of the ship. Usopp and Chopper were below deck trying to patch it up but it didn't seem to be working that great. Their lumber was limited, as well as nails, and there definitely wouldn't be enough the patch up any knew holes.
"Will they just give up already!" Ashe barked as she jumped down the stairs from the back of the ship to the main deck where Nami was.
"Here they come" Zoro growled as he gripped his sword tightly. The Marine were quickly gaining on them.
"We gotta fight" Sanji sighed sharply.
"Then let's go!" Luffy yelled before the three men took an assertive step forward. The walked right into the metal spears piled up in the deck and all fell over face first into the ground. They landed with their legs in the air. Ashe came running around the mast and headed for the back of the ship, almost doing the exact same thing as the trio, but was able to jump just in time and scramble over them instead. She stumbled, the toe of her boot catching on the top spear, but kept going.
"What's this!" The trio barked, still strewn out on the floor.
"Usopp said to hold onto them incase we needed them for something" Nami hummed with a shrug "Who knows"
"Come on!" Zoro snarled.
"They're in our way!" Sanji added sharply.
"I'll get rid of them" Luffy added, a lot more gently then the other two, as he shrugged casually. It didn't take the boy a second to think before he was already chucking the iron spears over the back of the ship where Ashe was standing and straight at the perusing navy vessels. Ashe watched them as they sailed through the air before embedding in the ships hulls as if they were simply made out of butter. She would never admit that she was gaping. Though Zoro and Sanji, who now stood either side of her, openly marvelled at their captains casual display of strength. Luffy simply dusted off his hands.
"Kay!" He huffed with a smile "Now we're ready!"
"I don't think I'm ever gonna get used to him being so strong" Ashe admitted as she scratched the bridge of her nose "I'm mean, he's so short"
"Nows our chance!" Zoro yelled as he looked away from the destroyed ships "Full speed ahead. We gotta shake them off!"
"I get what ya mean" Sanji nodded to Ashe, still a little dazed, as he handed her a fresh cigarette. It was mostly smooth sailing from there, with the crew pulling out the oars to give the Merry a boots, while Ashe bustled about trying to fix some of the rigging that had come loose. She climbed higher and higher, to the point she was fixing the ropes around the crows nest, but she took her time to enjoy it. She had a feeling this peace wasn't going to last much longer.
"Looks like the marines have stopped following us!" Zoro nodded, a small grin pulling across his lips, but all he got was a collective groan from the rest of the crew "That's good news! We shook them off"
