"Morning May" Y/n spoke softly exhausted from staying up all night to read a book.

"did you sleep at all last night My Lady?" May asked placing a plate in front of her.

"An hour or so please come eat with me, I won't tell Father if you won't. " Y/n said the elderly women nodded and placed another plate down.

"how are you feeling, did you finish the book?" May asked Y/n face lit up with a bright smile.

"yes it was brilliant the ending was quite sad but it was very well written" Y/n said sipping on some coffee.

"yes well your Father sent a letter, I hope you don't mind but I opened it, he said that he would be home by dinner time and he will be bringing a guest" May said softly handing her the note out of her pocket.

"oh god please don't tell me it's another man, I get it I'm in my mid 20s and I should be married but I'm happy with my books and to busy with my job" Y/n said pushing back her hair.

"I know my Lady but he is very adament to marry you off" May said Y/n only nodded groaning.

"hopefully this one doesn't like the look of a zombie" Y/n said with a low laugh May laughed along with her as they continued breakfast.

"I'm going to go dress for the day, I may start a new book aswell while I wait, come and join me in the library if you want, unless you have anything you want to do" Y/n said May laughed lightly.

"Miss you know you don't have to be so kind to me all the time I'm just the help" May said softly picking up her own plate as Y/n picked up the others and put it on the trolly.

"you may be paid to be here, but you are also my friend and a human being, I shall be back down soon" Y/n said, May smiled and nodded moving towards the kitchen.

Y/n hurried up the cold wooden steps and changed into a dark red dress that trailed behind her, no one really wore such colours around this part of England it was always soft pinks, light blues and creams but of course, Y/n had taste.

She headed inside the library and sat down getting comfortable in her usual seat right next to the window, she pushed it open as the rain came down heavier, she grabbed a blanket and laid it over her legs, smiling as the rain smell floated inside.

Around an hour passed and May walked in.

"it's awfully cold in here" May stated sitting on a chair by the dying fire.

"hmm sorry what did you say?" Y/n asked looking up from the book, May smiled with a small laugh.

"I said it's cold in here, are you not cold?" May asked Y/n shook her head and looked back down at the book, May shook her head with a slight smile and got the fire roaring again as she covered herself in a thick blanket.

Four hours passed and Y/n looked up as May spoke again.

"your father will be here soon, I doubt he will be happy seeing you in that red dress" she repeated Y/n shrugged.

"I like it...it's comfortable and the corset is softer then my other dresses, I should probably put some slippers on before they get here though" Y/n said softly May nodded and folded the blanket.

"it's okay I'll grab them" May quickly said as Y/n began getting up she nodded and sat back down.

"here" May said softly handing her the dark black slippers, she slipped them on her feet and continued reading her book.

"I'm going to clean the parlour, don't stay up here to long, come down when the carriage gets here won't you?" May asked.

"if I hear it I shall" Y/n said May nodded and left the cold room.
