Chapter 16 Erik the last kingdom

"Y/n you cannot go with with us" Uhtred said pulling at her wrist.

"Uhtred I am a war maiden, I have been in more battles then you so step back and let me go" Y/n said her voice calm while her eyes remained trained on his hand slowly he removed his hand and stood back.

"My Lady it will not be safe in Lunden" Sihtric said knowing she had not recovered from her last battle.

"I shall be fine even if I do not join you all in Lunden than I shall remain at camp with Athelflaed and Thyra, I shall protect them if I cannot be at your sides" Y/n said placing her saddle on her large black horse Finan smiled while Sihtric and Uhtred nodded.

"I will be fine" Y/n said softly hugging Uhtred he hugged her back kissing her cheek lightly.

"Gisella will not be happy that you are coming with us" Uhtred said Y/n smiled.

"And that is exactly why I'm going to do it I cannot stay in this place any longer I miss the nature" Y/n said Uhtred nodded settling his forehead on hers as a goodbye they both parted and Sihtric hugged her lightly.

"I will see you all when you at the camp"
Y/n said softly Sihtric nodded while Finan walked towards her kissing her cheek he held her hand lightly.

"Goodbye young Viking princess" Finan said sarcastically making her laugh loudly as she pulled him forward hugging him.

"You look after them Finan the journey is dangerous" Y/n said softly Finan nodded and they parted while Y/n got on her horse moving away from the large resting army of Mercians and soldiers from Winchester she travelled quicker then the army wanting to scope out where they would be setting up camp.

Knowing she would not want to be in the same tent with the other people aswell as Athelflaed and Thyra who wanted to share a tent once the men had left for battle she began making her own shelter in the forest hidden but safe.

Hearing the army in the distance she moved up into the tree, once it hit midday they would fight, thankfully it was late night as they had been traveling and resting through the day.

"Y/N!" Beocca yelled from the field just before the trees, she smiled and began climbing down happy that she had chosen her leather armor as she could move better and it would protect her healing wound better.

"Father Beocca" Y/n said landing behind him he looked round his eyes wide.

"I did not hear you, come we are getting dinner" Beocca said softly Y/n nodded.

"I also want you to see the medics before we sleep just to make sure you are healing well, we did not think you would have made it nevermind being here" Beocca said worry laced in his voice.

"I will be fine Beocca but I shall do as you ask Uhtred and Sihtric are already angry at me for coming, Finan was pleased" Y/n said with a smile.

"Of course he was you two are the only free people here" Beocca said Y/n smiled and nodded remembering how much they had flirted over the past months since she had met them.

"I shall finish my camp before you leave but I shall stay with Athelflaed and Thyra I shall keep them safe Beocca" Y/n said he took her hand patting it lightly, they continued walking to the tables and began eating quietly everyone was roaring happily while the men could not get drunk they were allowed a little tipple of mead before the big fight.

"I shall be retiring to my bed" Y/n said standing up after the men had gotten too noisy, Sihtric and Uhtred nodded while Finan moved with her.

They moved away from the table and the large warm flames.
