"Good morning everyone!" Y/n said with as much fake enthusiasm she could muster for a Monday morning teaching adults.
"You're late again Y/n" the usual stuck up bitch mumbled from the back.
"Really? Well I'm sorry I just got off of a night shift at the trauma unit, I'm sure you understand...oh wait nevermind" Y/n said hearing a couple oo's even adults knew when shit started.
"Now as I was saying, I just finished a night shift in a trauma unit downtown that deals with people from car accidents to children who fell off their bikes, last night you may of heard about that warehouse fire?" Y/n asked everyone nodded.
"Myself and multiple doctors and trauma surgeons were called in to help, I have printed a case study for you all based on a situation that happened last night...that will be your starter activity, I am going to go grab a coffee and some food" Y/n said softly everyone nodded once she handed the papers out and then walked out quickly hurrying towards the cafeteria.
Walking back to her class to see them all still writing.
"Anyone have any questions or need help?" She asked softly taking a sip of her coffee.
"Which one did you do in the situation?" One of them asked softly.
"Well that's cheating if I tell you the answer, so a young women and her elderly father and child come in...all of them with burns and injuries." Y/n said sitting on her desk.
"The elderly man is insistent we take his daughter in first, but she has burns over 70% of her body, he only has a couple burns on his hands aswell as the small child, I was told to only take people who would have a chance of living since it was such a big explosion the casualties were up in the 200s" Y/n said gulping down her coffee again as they all listened.
"But he was still insistent enough to grab my arm and pull me down to look at his daughters face quite aggressively, which I know is usually their first reaction. She wasn't crying or screaming she was just staring right back up at me."
"What did you do?" Another asked intrigued, she nodded.
"I'd like to hear what you have all said first and then what I would do." Y/n said standing up.
"Just put the letter of which option you chose" she said nodding as she looked around.
"most of them being A's and B's only one C."
"Okay so A was take all of them in one ambulance and make sure they all get treatment at the hospital...B was take the daughter and then see that the others get a separate ambulance...C was take the man and child to the closest ambulance and leave the daughter." Y/n said again everyone nodded slowly looking round at everyone's boards.
"John why did you pick C?" Y/n asked softly, he looked up at her with a confident smile.
"Because you said she had burns over 70% of her body, most adults wouldn't survive that especially if it was 3rd degree burns" he stated softly, Y/n leaned forward intrigued by his statement.
"And how do you know it was 3rd degree burns?" Y/n questioned he nodded.
"You mentioned she wasn't crying or screaming, 3rd degree burns are known to go deep enough to affect the nerves so some burn victims don't feel the usual pain 1st or 2nd degree patients would feel" John stated.
Y/n stood clapping her hands.
"Thank you John that's is exactly what I did, she was pronounced dead seconds after her Father and child were driven away."
Y/n said she nodded and sat down taking a deep breath.
"Alright...you can all carry on with your assignments if you like that are due in on Friday...if not then I have a couple more tasks you can do I'll leave them on the table so just collect them when you want or if you want to take them home please do...I'm going to get more coffee and then we can break up for lunch?" Y/n asked softly everyone nodded but noticed the exhausted look in her eyes as she walked out.
