Five people running through the streets of New York wasn't normal to begin with. Add in the fact that our rag-tag team consisted of two normal looking people, a man in a business suit and sneakers, a guy with a scarf tied around the upper part of his head, and a woman in black leather and a mask, we definitely stood out like sore thumbs. Good thing it was dark by the time we rushed into a Chinese restaurant.
"We're closed," a man called out from inside as Matt held the door open for us. "We need to kill the lights," he called out to the others as Jessica entered ahead of me. "How do you even know they're on?" she asked him in that cranky growl of hers. "Hey, I said we're closed!" the man – my guess, the owner – snapped at us as I entered the restaurant and Matt closed the door behind me, locking it and dropping the blinds down over the window in the door.
"Look, we just need to stay off the streets," the blonde man told the owner as I started dropping the blinds over the large windows in the front of the building. "Well, stay off them somewhere else. I'll call the police," the owner snapped at him. "You can't do that. You'd be putting the cops in danger," Luke said, stepping up beside the blonde man, whose name I had yet to learn. "I'll put you in danger," the owner snapped back at Luke.
"I'm done explaining this," Jessica growled before stepping up to the large dresser that sat underneath the windows. She lifted it with ease, shoving it in front of the door like a blockade. The owner shouted something in Chinese as I just watched her, eyebrows raised in shock. "Whoa! She is very strong," the blonde man said, staring in awe.
"Sir, this is for your protection. We need this place to look closed," Matt told the owner sternly. The owner grumbled in Chinese once more before the blonde man also started speaking Chinese. "You speak Chinese?" Jessica asked him as he passed by with the owner. I went about turning off lights when Matt called out "I still hear neon." Luke looked at him in confusion before turning to Jessica. "Who hears neon?" he asked her. "On it," I responded to Matt, turning off all of the neon signs I could find.
"My blind-but-maybe-not lawyer," Jessica responded to Luke with a sigh. "Your what? What do you mean he's blind?" Luke asked before Jessica dropped her voice. "I don't know. I thought he was sent to spy on me, and now I'm not so sure," she replied. "You think he's on our side?" Luke asked her as I finished with the lights. "Our side of what?" she asked him. He didn't answer.
"Who's Karate Kid?" she asked, nodding towards the blonde man who was still talking to the owner. "Danny Rand," Luke responded when I felt a hand touch my arm. I spun to face Matt; whose lips were pulled into a tight frown. He opened his mouth to say something, but then closed it, huffing out a deep breath. I opened my mouth, hoping to explain before he could ask when someone else spoke.
"And who the hell is the dominatrix?" Jessica asked. I turned my gaze to her, seeing her stare at me. I felt Matt move away from me but kept my eyes on Jessica. "Hell Cat," I told her with a shrug, moving slowly to stand near them. She stared at me with skeptical eyes. "What, they were all out of ears and a tail at Vigilantes R Us?" she asked me teasingly. I shook my head before Matt returned, saving me from answering.
"All right, back door is clear. Everything's locked. I think we're safe for now," he said, shrugging off his coat before tossing it on the back of a nearby chair. "So we're just gonna wait it out here?" Luke asked him in confusion. "You got a better plan?" Matt asked him. "Is there a plan where I get my scarf back?" Jessica asked dryly. "I just need it till this is over," Matt said before loosening his tie. "What, do you two know each other?" he asked, gesturing to the two of them. "Yeah," Jessica responded slightly hesitant. "How?" I asked, resting a hand on my hip. "We met. We drank. I shot him in the head," Jessica responded, earning a surprised chuckle from Matt as I raised an eyebrow at Luke.
