Damn. There is nothing like summer nights. Not a cloud in the sky to cover the few stars not extinguished by the lights of New York. Just cool enough that the wind whipping through my hair keeps me on my toes. The sounds of young people acting foolish while barhopping. The stink of rotting trash gone with the afternoon heat. There truly was nothing like New York summer nights. Okay, maybe some of those things are weird, or gross even. But, hey, it's home.
I couldn't help but glance over at Matt as we took a small break. He was standing near the edge of the building, looking as menacing as usual. Listening, no doubt, for trouble. His red suit reflected lights from the bars below; his helmet's red eyes gleaming. It took him a long time to dawn this suit again. Even after months have passed since we defeated Dex and Fisk. Even after Brett and the police captain came out and said the attacks on the Bulletin, the church, and even Fisk's wedding were all perpetrated by an imposter. He hated the fact that the symbol he had used to make the criminals of this city terrified had been used on the innocent citizens we fought for every day. Some people still didn't trust him – Daredevil, that is. I heard whispers on occasion of people saying the "imposter situation" was just a police cover-up. Others agreed that it hadn't made sense for him to attack innocent people now – to kill them. Some were still as skeptical as the day he appeared, fighting off muggers and human traffickers. But we wouldn't stop. We wouldn't give up on this city.
And I kept pestering Matt. He needed to take the suit back. Reclaim it as his own and show everyone the real Daredevil again. At least, that was part of the reason I wanted him to wear the suit again. The other reason was because I loved staring at his ass in it. Just like I was now, as he listened to the noises of the city for signs of trouble. Though, I have to say, his ass looks pretty good naked too.
"If you keep staring at me like that, we'll have to finish patrolling separately." I let out a small chuckle at him. "How did you know I was staring at you?" I teased, stepping up behind him and wrapping my arms around his torso. A low chuckle rumbled through his chest. "I could have been staring at anything. You know, there's a pretty big Calvin Klein underwear billboard. Guy's pretty jacked." This new laugh was more of a scoff than a chuckle as Matt let his head fall back for a moment. Then he shifted, lifting one arm high before turning in my grasp to face me. His arms encircled me now, gloved hands trailing up and down my back. The corner of his lips were turned up even though I could tell he was trying to remain mostly serious.
"If you were staring at a billboard, it wouldn't feel like two lasers were burning my ass." I was grinning ear to ear as he stared down at me. He couldn't use his eyebrows to emote through the helmet, but I got the feeling he had one eyebrow raised in skepticism. "Because I was staring at your ass." Matt's forehead dropped to mine at my cheeky response, shaking his head.
"Pretty sure we should be focusing on patrol right now, not certain body parts we want to enjoy." My eyebrows shot up teasingly as my grin turned into a smirk. "We? Any body parts of mine you want to enjoy?" I know it's dumb of me to ask. I know exactly what parts he enjoys physically. But sometimes a girl likes to hear it said anyway. Matt's hands slid down my back, one stopping by my hip while the other kept going. Down it went, gliding over my butt. His hand cupped my butt a little rougher than necessary, but enjoyable nonetheless, before he gave it a gentle pat. "I see we have similar tastes in anatomy," I teased relentlessly. Matt let out a chuckle before kissing my forehead.
Then he pulled back, reaching behind himself to take my hands and free himself from my grasp. "If we keep going like this, we won't finish patrolling." His chastising made me sigh to myself even though there was a flutter in my chest at the thought. "You're right. I'll take south of 48th, you take north? Meet at the shipping yard before heading back?" Matt nodded at my suggestion, taking another step back from me while still holding my hands in his.
